My kodak easyshare z5010 is acting up fliping between different settings n sometimes shutting completely off..difficult focusing and zooming as it resets it back to a far away before zoom

Make sure your batteries are good. This sometimes happens when the battery is low.

Check the settings that influence the exposure when your camera is in manual mode. There are three variables that you can adjust to change the exposure: ISO sensitivity, aperture (diaphragm) and shuttertime. When for instance the ISO is set to 100, aperture to F16 and shutterspeed to 1/1000 you will need a huge amount of light to get anything else than black pictures.
In a normal daylight situation you should get some results when using approximately the following settings: ISO100, F5.6 and 1/60 shutterspeed. Adjust these settings depending the light conditions and the results you get.

Do you mean the lock on the memory card , take it out of the camera and youll see a tiny plastic switch , move it to unlock and that should do the trick , best of luck

You know sometimes the lens will not focus if you have a physical damage etc., first of all i would like to clarify some points.

1. Did you place your camera near to a strong magnetic area?
2. Did you drop the camera?
3. Did you use Zoom in Zoom-out continuously at the same time?

for the first point i am sure it was exposed to strong Magnetic field, as and when it is exposed the coil of the zoom lens which move the lens in and out will get out of place and makes it impossible to maintain focus. If so then better is to open the camera and re-adjust the lens. But if you are confident to put it back then open it or try to slowly wiggle the camera and check if it gets better.

there is something wrong with the zoom and focus electronics, mine won't focus in wide angle, it's permently focused on 3x zoom.

This camera has an auto lens. Which means it will focus automaticly evey sec. you can turn this option off:
1: Go into the menu
2: Chose option Cam Setiings
3: Swich AUTO focus to single lens and click OK.

Try to set the camera on auto mode
make sure that the flash is also set in auto
take pictures in different lightning condition out door and in door
if the problem still persist its either the lens assembly or the camera sensor is defective

yes i'm afraid it is a lost cause as the camera has now suffered from shock damage sorry!!!!!

Hello, Sounds like you have a drive motor/gear assembly malfunction,this type of failure is costly to repair.
