'92 Saturn Sl twin cam. Starter cranks fine but engine won't start and when you turn the key on no power to the gauges, but it cranks the engine

Spark , compression , fuel ? Which of these are missing ? Spray carb. cleaner or starting fluid into the engine , does it try to start ? Pull two plug wires at the same coil , crank engine , is there spark ? No power to gauges hasn't anything to do with no start .

Troubleshoot my engine

First remove one or more spark plug and check if they fire during cranking ( Replace therefore the plug in the plug cap and place the metallic side of the plug against the engine-block and crank.)
If NO spark check:
- Deadman knob-is the puller installed?
- Unplug the wiring to remote-control and check spark with manual start. If you have sparks: Problem with contact key/remote control circuit ( check for worn cable, bad RPM counter )
Still no sparks: Check CDI-box
If the plugs are WET: dry them with air, or better replace them!

If you have sparks: Check if fuel come to the carbs. Therefore, unscrew the drain plug ofan upper carburettor at the side of the cowls.
If there is fuel, check after cranking if the plugs are 'wet'. If they're dry: clean the carburettors

If plugs were wet: Empty all the carb cowls ( drain plug ), remove the fuel line ( pince it with pliers if no quick connector ). Crank the engine while carbs are full open throttle for 15 seconds.
Set everything back ( plugs, fuel line, drain plugs, spark plug caps ) and give it a try...

'92 SEADOO xp.has begun to run very slow and rough-dies when given gas but will idle rough.I pulled off rear cyl spark plug wire and engine ran same.New pugs seemed to solve problem for 10 min, then...

If your compression and spark appear normal the electrics are probably not an issue. New plugs fixing it for 10 minutes sounds like a carb issue. I had two 92 XPs'. Did full rebuilds on both, top to bottom, cranks, rods pistons etc etc, and the dual carbs were a pain to adjust. First you may need to rebuild the carbs as there is a good chance, with the age, that there is crud/shellac or other corruption causing issues and causing the mixture to run rich and foul your plugs. That is a carb rebuild. Next is the evil oil injection pump. Are the plugs black/oily when you take them out (they should be caramel brown)? Is the exhaust bluer than normal? If either of these are the case there is the automatic oil injection pump that is married (for want of a better analogy) to the carb and throttle. These can fail to inject oil (no blue exhaust) and your engine just seizes up and requires rebuild or as may be in your case, jams wide open and over oils the engine and fouls the plugs. It may be a mix of both issues too. As I remember there is a tiny wee fuel filter inside the carb inlet that can cause untold grief too. It is a pain but I did get the carbs out, with the engines left in, to work on them on the bench. There are also the monstrously difficult mixture adjustment screws, one with a tee pin through it and the other with a flat head screw adjustment. The manual had some guidance on adjustment there but I remember that being a chore in of itself. Mikuni carbs i think. There is more than I can go into here on the net about adjustment, pwctoday comes to mind. I have a big 4-tec now with a jetpack for it. I do miss those 587s though. My mild port and over on the two I had got them up to 47 mph at WOT.
What an absolute blast to throw around the lake!
Good luck with the fixing.

Won't stay running

I took the carb apart and found that it needed rebuilt, I installed the new carb and fuel pump kit and it runs great again.

Engine will crank but will not turn over

Do this, take the top off the carb, being careful not to damage the gasket. Then take some carb cleaner and clean out the bowl and floats. Remove the needle valve and clean it out. Put it all back together and filling the bowl with carb cleaner. Start it with the starting fluid. Once you run the carb cleaner through it, it should start to run on it's own. Whatever you do don't shut it off for about 20-30 min unless you have to.
