Black and decker electric mower hums but blade does not turn. appears the brake is not releasing for the blade.

Before you start removing covers and panels unplug the mower. Turn the mower over and carefully try to spin the blade by hand. Your checking to where the issue is most likely to be.
Does the motor sound different when you pull the Start trigger? If it sounds a lot faster than normal, it could be an issue between the motor and gearbox.
Does the blade spin really easily and feel like it's not bolted down? Does the blade not turn at all like it's 'locked' or 'jammed'?
- A loose or floppy blade is commonly the centre mount bolt for the blade is loose or the blade isn't seated correctly.
- A 'locked' blade could be a gearbox or a motor issue.

pull to the larger slot to release the old blade and back to the smaller slot to hold the new blade in place

Steve it sounds like the brushes located at the top of the motor. They need replacing.

check to make sure your blade brake is releasing all the way

You may be missing a couple of washers, 2 flat and one lock waasherAre all the pieces there. Sometimes it calls for a spCER

the shear pin has broke on the drive shaft put a new one in.

You can pick up a blade at almost any hardware store.

Black and decker has a web page and 800 number which I can't locate rigth now

electric & battery operation mower are not suppose to be use when grass are too long & wet, it draws lot of power that appear to runs slow.when you see try to restart i think the brake is trying to kick in.

possible broken armature & magnetic ring.mower need max repair.
