Yes indeed the processes is very simple.

You're going to take the front end off like you normally would, but you also need to detach the bag so you will then grip on to the handle under the mini emptor, that's the plastic thing is connected to, there is a grip under that you will grip and turn it towards you.

Once it's loose you will then fill the shampoo tank. The solution calls for one shampoo tank cap full of Kirby suds to one part of water, and you can find the water parts labeled on the side of the tank. Use ONLY Kirby suds, I've tried other brands of suds and they didn't dry as fast as Kirby does and Kirby smells better anyway.

Second you want to put the tank on the exhaust port of the Kirby where you took the bag off. You will see there are little buds on the port mouth and there are grooves on where the shampooer tank attaches to the port mouth, line the bud up with the grooves on the tank and push towards the handle.

Next you're gonna hook up the shampoo tray like you would the beater bar. Next you're going to hook up the shampooer hose and you will put the smooth end on the small port on the tank and the other end on the hole in the middle of the tray.

Then you should be ready to go all you do then is turn the vacuum on without the suds on, and put it all the way down. Then you turn the suds on full blast and put the vac in drive and go. Not too fast but not too slow either just go a bit slower then when you vacuum on back and forth strokes. Well, hope full this solves your problem!

I need to know how to use the attachments that came with the Kirby. I know how to use the shampoo/vacuum, but not the other attachments or the upholstery cleaner. Does anyone have any idea?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
1st, you need to un-hook the lever @ the top of the Kirby head, dial off the belt from the Kirby Vacuum Head using the Kirby emblem in the front of the vacuum, that also serves as a hook/spoon to dial the belt off the fan pulley. Once you have removed the vacuum head you now hook up the attachment hose to use the attachments by locking the attachment hose to the top lever. All regular Kirby attachment will fix on the attachment hose end including the spin brush if you have one with your Kirby --- using the Kirby Shampoo spray the soiled area and use the spin brush to agitate the carpet and or upholstery, try not to use to much water. If you have a Kirby shampooer – use the recovery tank on the exhaust port of the Kirby (this means that the cloth/paper bag needs to come off and install the clear recovery tank. Please refer to the Kirby owners manual for any type of trouble shooting that you might need – or please feel free to contact your local vacuum dealer in the yellow pages or contact your Kirby factory manufacturer listed below:

Are there hand tools you can use with Kirby shampooer?

I love my Kirby and shampooer, but I am wondering if there are any ways to clean stains in small/tight spaces (in corners, between furniture, etc)... my old carpet shampooer had a "hand tool" attachment with spinning brushes, but I don't see anything similar for Kirby... I imagine I could put a tiny bit of solution down and use the zip brush, but I'm wondering if anyone has a better idea...?

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
I believe that Kirby does make a spinning brush and If I remember it is a round brush that spins and probably will not get into square corners – suggest using a scrub brush with the Kirby Shampoo for corners and steps for areas that you cannot get into – use an old spray bottle to wet down the area that you are cleaning and use the scrub brush and if you do find the Kirby spinning brush that will do the large areas. Feel free to contact the Kirby factory phone number and website listed below:

make sure the brushes on the shampooer head are spinning and that you have the shampooer head lowered all the way down to its lowest setting. Also...shampoo at a slower pace than you would move when vacuuming...when both putting down the suds on heavily soiled areas and scooping them up. The more oils in the carpet, the less suds you'll see when the shampooer is working properly. one more thing that may be mentioned in the guide is the little round sud screen that attaches to one end of the shampooer hose...make sure that little mesh screen is there and seated properly. It is what produces the suds from the shampoo solution.
