About two days ago, Samsung gas dryer began to blow heat for a few minutes then blows cool air. Checked and cleaned venting system; tried various settings, still same result---runs hot for a few minutes, then goes cold air. The dryer is about 6 years old now. Someone told me sounded like the coils were bad, or possibly the thermal fuse. I cleaned the moisture sensor, but guessing that is not the problem? thank you for any help!
The thermocouple ot high heat limiter ====the thermocouple when going bad -or not properly on bracket will shut the gas valve off --same with high heat limiter ---before checking these parts feel the air coming out if feels restricted clean the vent tube under the lint trap filter can use a vacuum from front and rear exhaust tube
Thanks John. When you say thermocouple, is that the igniter??? Is the high heat limiter the high-limit thermostat? Sorry for the questions...I am a newbie to fixing gas dryers! Air flow seems okay---I took off dryer vent and vacuumed run and also back of pipe directly into dryer. I thought I felt some "surging" of the air at first at the outside vent, but it seemed to go away.
the pilot light/igniter will have a small what look like a wire in the flame thats the thermocouple the flame if not present will cause the thermocouple to shut off the gas valve what happens with these is they carbon up and then dont give a proper reading and shut off or they wear out so to speak and function for short time and shut down turning off gas the high limit is a sensor that senses the air if to hot say because air not flowing or heat to hot will shut gas valve like thermocouple
Thanks John. I was going to replace the igniter and thermostat since I'll have the dryer apart. Can the thermocouple be checked after I pull the dryer away from the wall and see the gas assembly? I can't seem to find a replacement thermocouple on any parts sites like Parts Clinic, etc. Thank you for your help and patience!
you can try online parts like searspartsdirect ebay amazon appaliancepastspros and or look up local appliance parts stores in your area have model number available to check a thermocouple you need a milli volt meter and or ohms meter to test add flame to couple and take a reading at wire or flame on than off and check reading it acts like a switch ==this site is a samsung parts site with description and photohttp://www.samsungparts.com/Products/Par...
Thanks John. This is a silly question, but the thermocouple is not a thermal fuse, correct?
correct its a safey type cutoff that ensures that if flame goes out the gas doesnt keep flowing
Gotcha. I had read a few posts on other sites that indicated that if the thermal fuse was bad, then the dryer would not even run. I very much appreciate your time and help.
