Needle position on Singer 4423 not working

Be sure the bobbin winding spindle is full to the left.

You may need to clean/oil the machine.

Hi there,

The needle threader hook is very tiny and easily bent or damaged.
The needle threader is designed not to turn, if the needle is not at its most upper position to protect the threader - Turn hand wheel until needle reaches its highest position.
Needle not alining with threader hook - Replace needle.
Threader hook bent - Replace with new needle threader hook.

Automatic needle threader will not work

Take it for service. It has been knocked out of alignment.

Make sure the needle is threaded properly. If the thread is going through the needle in the wrong direction, the thread won't be picked up.

Timing is out if needle not clear of fabric, not really a home fix

You need to have your singer re-timed. Take it in and pay the $$ to have it serviced.

Sounds like a part is broken... but you can test this by grasping the needle bar and pulling to the right as you set it to Center with the dial. If it doesn't move that means the mechanism that does this for you is broken. Take it in for service.
