Which ipod are you using? a great many docks are not compatible with the touch. When shopping for a dock to use with the touch there is a separate icon on the packaging that denotes ipod touch and iphone compatibility. If you no longer have the box or user's manual check with Bose' customer service.

If your ipod is not a touch I would check to be sure that the dock connector is clean and clear of debris.

I am also assuming that the ipod synchronizes normally with your computer (meaning that the ipod's socket is good) Try listening to the ipod via headphones while it is connected and charging to make sure that there is not an internal problem with the ipod.

I hope this helps.

I pod charges, plays, but no sound

Easy, I had this problem too. The reason it isn't playing is because its not in all the way. I was getting very frustrated with this, so I kept trying to push it onto the dock to get it all the way down.
Solution:
1. Play a song on your ipod/iphone so you can hear it through the device.
2. Connect your ipod/iphone to the docking station(Bose) so that you hear the chime(This lets you know its charging).
3. Pick up the docking station and firmly press the ipod/iphone down on the connector.
4. Keep pressing it and wiggling around until you hear the music begin to play through the docking station.
It may take a few tries, but you will get it.
Hope this helped!

Bose Docking Station incompatibility with IPOD Touch

You need to reset your ipod. You can go online to find out how to do this. I had to do it with mine and then it worked perfectly.

Bose sound dock - no sound comes through it but my ipod works with the ear plugs so it's not my ipod

I had this problem for the pat two days. Believe it or not I took my Ipod touch of the dock. Shut the power off to the Ipod to reset it. Also the power to the docking station. turned everything back on. Put the Ipod back into the docking station and heard the beep.. and hit play and it was working again. Not sure but shutting Ipod off does act like a reset.

Our sound dock does not charge our ipod touch 2nd gen. Bose manual says it does charge. The sound dock is not series 2. Are they not compatible? Thanks, Mark

The original SoundDock will not charge the iPod touch 2nd gen, or the iPhone 3G, or the new nano either. This is because Apple changed the way their new iPod products charge. (via USB only now)
There is 1 solution- Call Bose tech support. They can replace the 30 pin metal connector for a new one that will charge this. If this is not under warranty, it will cost $99, but it's worth it. New 1 year warranty, and compatibility with all iPods (except much older- non-clickwheel iPods)

Wont play through my bose system anymore

the apple ipod are very delicate and it seems that docks are very harsh on the internal workings IE: motherboard of the ipod. it not just the touch, it's all ipods.
My suggestion is to check the headphone jack and if you get sound, don;t play your ipod on the dock at all. Your dock has probably done some damage to the audio circuit on the board.
If you get sound through the headphone jack save your ipods life and just use it through the jack.
I have replaced numerous motherboards on ipods played on docks. they just don;t handle the charging and playing very well whether it's heat or just the wrong voltage I am not sure.
But my first question to a customer is have you played it on a dock.
I would stay away from the dock

Bose Ipod docking station not working!

Make sure the power supply is connected properly. If the power supply is connected upside down or sideways, the system will make a thumping noise, or will not play at all. However, no damage will be caused by connecting this wire incorrectly.
