Ok, but be careful! You may have unscrewed a battery contact already. Remove: antenna, knobs, rubber gasket under knobs, two screws at bottom of battery compartment. Back to top of radio, there are two brass retaining "nuts" with 2 small slots. One on the On/Off and 1 on the channel control. They must be unscrewed. I use an extremely small flathead screwdriver and insert it into one slot and turn counter clockwise. There is a tool and I modified a slip ring pliers for it, but the small screwdriver works 90% of the time. In the field, I use the screwdriver. Slide the housing up off the board. Now, unscrew all the small screws holding the board to the aluminum back. Count them, keep them safe and be certain to reinstall all of them. Now you will see the negative battery contact that may be the problem (loose) and the positive contacts stays put. Put the radio board back into the housing, push it up and I put the battery screws in loosely, then I install the brass nuts and "snug" them. This assures alignment of all the parts. (battery, speaker, antenna, PTT, etc) Let me know if you need more info. patience is key in removing the nuts and reinstall them to "snug", not too tight. Best of luck!

Testimonial: "You were right!! the ground brass strap was off however when we opened the unit, we found two small pieces that we can't figure out where they go. The unit does not power up so I'm hoping they are some sort of switch or........... Is there anyway to send you a photo of the parts? I found a yaesu exploded view of the radio but these are don't show up. Thanks"

How to change battery in ft.726r

You will need to disassemble all the way to the board level to unsolder the battery. It should be on the "control" board.

My Yaesu FT 270 R AA battery pack is corroded. The radio turns on if plugged into the wall, but not with the power pack (with fresh batteries). Suggestions, please?

contacts are covered with the corrosion as maybe the internals. Take a dremel tool with a wire brush and clean the contacts, or toothbrush with baking soda and water. Make sure to not get too much water inside the radio. You can also go to Radio Shack and get some contact cleaner spray to use.

Yaesu FT-726R repair shop?

Hi,

The cheapest way to repair your Yaesu, is to find a friend who is an amateur radio operator, these people know radios, and work on radios as a matter of course as their hobby, otherwise it's off to a radio workshop you go, and be prepared to part with some cash.

There are no freebies with quality branded radios, only cheapies, if you know the right people.

I hope this answers your query, and by the way, I'm in Australia, you never mentioned your location.

Cheers,
Peter

Hello! I've a couple of battery packs yaesu FNB27. The old NiCad batteries do not work. I want to replaced it by new LiH type. What is the best way to open the battery case without damaging it? thanks...

It's difficult to open the Vertex packs without ruining them. FNB27 is widely available on eBay or you can get them from manufacturers such as W&W in Hicksville NY online. I don't know if anyone has made them in Lithium Ion yet.

I need a new battery for a yaesu ft 26

Try "Batteries Plus" either online or possibly a local outlet. I found the batteries for my FT51 there and half the price of the factory ones.

Radio will not turn on w/full battery

Carfully clean the contacts on the battery and the power contacts on the radio. I have had the same problem, and this fixed it for me.
