Need to open it up to fix contacts for the battery
Ok, but be careful! You may have unscrewed a battery contact already. Remove: antenna, knobs, rubber gasket under knobs, two screws at bottom of battery compartment. Back to top of radio, there are two brass retaining "nuts" with 2 small slots. One on the On/Off and 1 on the channel control. They must be unscrewed. I use an extremely small flathead screwdriver and insert it into one slot and turn counter clockwise. There is a tool and I modified a slip ring pliers for it, but the small screwdriver works 90% of the time. In the field, I use the screwdriver. Slide the housing up off the board. Now, unscrew all the small screws holding the board to the aluminum back. Count them, keep them safe and be certain to reinstall all of them. Now you will see the negative battery contact that may be the problem (loose) and the positive contacts stays put. Put the radio board back into the housing, push it up and I put the battery screws in loosely, then I install the brass nuts and "snug" them. This assures alignment of all the parts. (battery, speaker, antenna, PTT, etc) Let me know if you need more info. patience is key in removing the nuts and reinstall them to "snug", not too tight. Best of luck!
Testimonial: "You were right!! the ground brass strap was off however when we opened the unit, we found two small pieces that we can't figure out where they go. The unit does not power up so I'm hoping they are some sort of switch or........... Is there anyway to send you a photo of the parts? I found a yaesu exploded view of the radio but these are don't show up. Thanks"
