I have an Acer laptop and it's a Windows 7 starter I would like to upgrade to something better for free is there any way to do that

What OS is installed on the Aspire One? If you have Windows 7 Starter, you will need to upgrade to a higher version of Windows 7. The fixed background is a limit of the Starter edition. If you have XP or a higher version of Windows, you should be able to change the background. In the other versions of WIndows 7, right click on the desktop and choose Personalize.

You can't change the background in W7 Starter because it is not allowed in that version. You will need to upgrade to Home Premium. There are a slew of free third party programs that you can install to enable you to change the background, but it comes at a price; they slow down the computer. If you want to try one, just do a search for "change background in windows 7 starter".

1. Before upgrading to windows 7, you must check the specification of your acer aspire 5315.

2. Windows 7 is better than windows vista but if you are really wanted those acer programs to work. You have to downgrade your operating system from your previous operating system.

ok, listen carefully. i was trying to figure out how to change my background, cuz i have the acer aspire with windows 7 starter, and with starter, you just not allowed 2 change your background, but if you upgrade to anything higher than starter you can change your background. so theres a way to get free windows home primium. whatyou do is go 2 control panel, then go click on "windows anytime upgrade" then click on enter upgrade key. then ente this code below. just copy and paste it.

after that it will upgrade you from windows 7 starter, to windows home premium. for FREE!!! it will probably take about 10 or 15 mins for it 2 fully upgrade. your laptop will restart like twice. then log on your laptop, and some stuff will pop up, telling you about home premium, just ignore it. then, after that all you gotta do 2 change your background is click on a picture and hit set as background. oh yeah, the first time i set a pic for my background it sorta put it way at the top, if it does that 2 u, just go 2 ur pictures folder n "my computer" and right-click on the picture you want to set your background as, and click "edit" it will then take you to the paint mode, after that click on like the little arrow in the top left corner, then go down to set as background, click the little arrow next to it, and then click the last option in the drop box, it says "center" then.....there you go! you go a like $150 kit. I would recommend sticking with windows xp on this model. New laptops are getting very inexpensive for the cost of windows 7 your better off buying a new laptop for 300$. If you operating system is performing up to what you think it should. I would consider backing up important data and formating and reinstalling windows.

i have done this with this model if its just the upgrade pack your not changeing anything so all drivers will be the same and will work well

The free upgrade is sent out by the laptops manf. directly to you as long as you bought the laptop in the past 4 months. It is regardless of the current version of Windows Vista that you are running. According to an article found here

"Acer says "shipments will begin in increments. All orders will be handled on a first-in, first-out basis." So if you bought a computer last week, you could be at the end of a long line."

Best you can do at the moment is just wait, your not going to be able to do much till Acer ships out that upgrade. Even if you did install Windows Vista Premium, you would be stuck till you got the Windows 7 from the manf.
