A new sim card (every network in South Africa) are assigned with a new cell number when you activate the new Sim. However...if you wish to use a number which you have had for years, you can port that number to Telkom (before you activate the new Telkom Sim) Go to any Telkom outlet and ask for a New Sim card. It is free. Give them your number and they will notify you current network of your intention to port to Telkom. What is importand is that you need to have the old Sim in your phone to receive the port confirmation. If not, then the porting to Telkom will be rejected. This is to ensure that people do not illegally port and steal other peoples cell numbers.

You do not state the name of your cell phone services provider.

If you can, take your cell phone and new SIM card to the nearest bricks and mortar store for your cell phone services provider and ask one of the employees to help activate the SIM card, using your current cell phone number.

Otherwise, you can choose Comment and add the name of your cell phone provider and the country where you reside, so that I or someone else can provide you with better direction.

First ensure through your network provider that the new SIM card has been activated. If not wait for the activation to complete. Everything will be fine.
If the activation has been completed and still if it doesn't work, Insert your SIM card into any other active mobile phone and check whether it works with it. If it doesn't work there is some problem with your SIM card. Contact the seller where you bought your SIM card. If it works fine with the other phone, then there must be some problem with your new phone's SIM port.
Try inserting any other active SIM card to your phone and check whether the SIM port of your mobile phone is fine.
Also make sure that the new phone is free from network restriction or locked to same network of your new SIM card. If it has been locked to some other network, you need to unlock your device.
To unlock a mobile phone from network restriction, you need to enter it's unique unlock code. You can get an unlock code from the respective network provider or from any private service. Hi. If your SIM is under postpaid plan, telcos usually activate the SIM within 24hours. If your SIM is prepaid, you may have to call the vendor and ask for replacement. SIM with "registration unsuccessful or rejected" is either not yet activated or expired. If you get "Invalid SIM" that means either the phone is locked to other network or the SIM is not active. Since your phone and SIM are new, it is more likely that your SIM is not yet activated. Please call your vendor if SIM is still rejected after 24hr period. Thanks.

Depending on when you activated it should work, the activation can take up to 2 to 3 hours. If this time frame has passed then maybe the store activated on the wrong sim, you simply need to take the phone back to them and they will give you a new sim.

Buy the new sim card from network operator shop.. they will give you the New sim and activate it

if you get a contract sim youll need to activate it ..this is done in the shop...(free to activate)but if you buy pay as you go sim it will be activated as soon as you put it in phone
