My son attempted to charge his toy car thru the USB port on the television, the power immediately cut off and I can't restore power

Unplug it and rest, plug it back in and see if it resets. If not you should know that USB ports have limited current capability, if there was too much current then the internal parts need to be checked. It could end up being a whole board

My dell inspiron 1420 wont charge without a lot of jiggling and moving the power cord around. i think it is the actual power whole inside the laptop. how do i fix this?

you are right, there is a partial contact inside the motherboard power pack. you will need an expert to do it for you, but if you are sure you can do it, just try opening the computer system and go straight to the port where the power cord is been plugged you will need a soldering iron and a lead to work on the board, around the port connector, you will see some broken soldering, all you need to do is to resolder the broken lead connection.

Unit shuts down while navigating with power cord plugged inalso seems to have dead pixels in screen

Dead pixels you can't do anything about without replacing the COLOR LCD TOUCH SCREEN. Which will probably cost as much as replacing the whole unit anyway.
As for shutting down while plugged in, that may be one of two things. Either the charging cord has gone bad (and they do go bad), or your not plugged into the lighter/charging port in your vehicle completely. Lastly, the charging cord for a Garmin GPS has a fuse in it, at the head that plugs into the charging port. Check it to see that it's not blown. Chances are it may be.

Motorola v365 won't charge and won't stay with wall power

Hello,

The reason your phone wont charge might be because there is a problem with the battery, the charger or the charging port.

To test it if it is the battery,

Insert the battery into another phone and try to charge it for a while,
if it does not work, then it is the battery.

All you have to do is to change the battery.

To test it if it is the charger,

Plug the charger to a power supply,
Connect the charger to another phone, to see if it works.

If it does not work, then it is the charger that needs replacement.

To test if it is the charging port,

Insert a new battery, and plug it to a new charger.

If it does not charge, then it is the charging port.

Replace the charging port and it will be okay.

To replace the charging port;
  1. After removing your back cover and battery, remove the four torx 6 screws you see. (When reassembling, the gold screws go at the bottom and the silver screws go back at the top),
  2. With the four screws removed you can now remove the battery compartment,
  3. With the battery slot removed you have access to one of the ribbons which connects the screen to the main body of the phone. Unclip this (it fits like a plug and socket).
  4. You'll now have the phone in two parts,
  5. Take to the lower part and disconnect the charging port and replace it with a new one,
  6. Reverse the whole procedure for reassembly
Take care

Electrical problems

Unless the van is in super good condition, likely it's time for the scrapyard.
You may be able to get another harness from a scrapyard though. Then, this will turn your ride into a "project car"
First, you need to find out why the thing burned, otherwise after the new one is back in, it can happen again. Luckily, it's older and does not have as many "exotic" computer controls but you will likely need a new computer and a good once-over of underdash wiring as when harness burns, short circuits and power crossovers happen all over the place.
Try to identify as many intact plugs and wire colours, then label what's there and cut away the harness itself, leaving plugs in place.
Lay out the new harness and try to locate and match connections so you know where they go. If bulkhead connector is intact, plug harness in and begin installing and plugging stuff in. don't worry about plugs in the harness that don't seem to go to anything because most harnesses fit several models and options. Once install is complete, touch positive terminal lead to battery and watch for smoke etc.Turn ignition on and do this again.
Only other option (if you don't need computer system to pass inspection) is to individually wire up necessary systems for starting, ignition and charging. If it's injected you will need to adapt a carburetor to the manifold as injection will not work without the computer. You would then need a low pressure electric pump and need to power up the accessories.
What you do is largely depending upon how much you like it and how much time and $ you want to put into it.. Check with a local electrical shop and see what they charge. That's always another option.

Need to rewire all electrial in engine compartment

Sounds like you need to try and find the whole wiring harness from another 83 or compatible. Salvage yard.
Unplug old harness at firewall and plug in new used.
