The machine works with the hose but not with the base suction. Have cleaned all filters and baseplate etc so no blockages. Machine not picking up when used without the hose.

Hi Alan, it's Jack at Dyson.

From what you've described, it sounds as if you may have a blockage inside your machine's internal hose or changeover valve. This is housed within the ball assembly, so it may not be immediately noticeable. Please follow the steps shown in the images below:

My dc01 wand wont pick up

Hi Davina,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC01. If your machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be via the hose, there may be a blockage somewhere in the machine. The filters may also need to be washed or replaced.

To check for any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc01/dc01-standard/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual1/clean-the-shroud
In normal use, the filters should be washed at least once every 3 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow the filters to dry completely somewhere warm for at least 12 hours before replacing them.

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298. Our Helpline is available from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week, and calls are free from UK landlines.

Best wishes,

Jack

Not much suction

Check that the bag and filter are clean.
Try it without the hoses and fittings, If there is better suction the hose has a blockage. Reverse the hose and and hold it against the inlet on the machine and let the machine **** though the hose backwards. This sometimes clears a blockage.

My henry wont pick up any dirt and how do i change the filter ...

The filter on a Henry does not need changing (unless torn or
damaged). It simply neeeds cleaning, either by vacuuming with
another machines or brushing clean. For maximum suction, air
must be able to flow through it. Next, change the bag. Finally
remove hoses and pipes etc and switch on, the suction that you can feel by putting your hand against his "nose", is the same suction that you should feel when pipes are back on.

If it is not, then you will have a blockage, usually in the flexi hose, but drop a coin through in order to establish where.

Dyson hose looses suction

You have a blockage in the wand. Stand behind the machine and:
1) Remove the u-bend which is located NEXT to the right-hand side wheel, NOT above it. It connects from the bottom of the long gray hose to next to the right-hand side wheel. It is attached to the machine with a rectangular-shaped clip - push the clip and pull the pipe down.
2) Look through the wand if you can (DC07 wand is bent) - if you can't see the ground you have a blockage in either the hose or the wand
3) Remove the hose and separate it from the wand - hold the wand up into the air and look through it - if you can't see light coming through the other end, there is a blockage in the wand. Use a long object like a stick or a metal hanger to remove the blockage.
4) If the wand is clear, stretch the hose out and look for dark spots - those are the blockages. Again use a long object to remove the blockage - be careful not to damage the hose, you don't want to buy a new one.

Dyson red style. beater bar not working. no suction

You may have a blockage or the internal hose is not seated tightly anymore.

1) Check for blockages from the bottom of the machine. Remove the:
(i) U-Bend (stand behind the machine and look next to the right-hand-side wheel, it's attached with a rectangular clip next to the
long gray hose - push the clip and pull the U-Bend off, make sure its clear - if there's a blockage remove it and continue with the
blockage check to ensure that the entire machine is clear)
(ii) AI Valve (stand behind the machine and look above the right-hand side wheel, it's attached with two buttons on either side of the
AI Pipe/Valve - push the two buttons and pull the pipe up and off and make sure there is clear - if there's a blockage remove it and
continue with the blockage check to ensure that the entire machine is clear)
(iii) Refit the internal hose on the bottom of the machine between the wheels and make sure it isn't torn and has no holes in it and
that there is nothing clogged inside it - to refit the hose: Pull it off where it sits next to the wheel first - make sure that the
gray piece of rubber is still on the hose (if it isn't, pull the gray piece of rubber off the hole and reconnect it to the hose by
twisting it back on) - next, twist the hose off where it connects to the brushbar - inspect the hose and make sure you don't have any
holes in it - put it back on by twisting it onto the side of the brushbar first - then line the gray piece of plastic end up with the
hole next to the wheel and push and twist it back over the hole. Bring the machine back upright and test it

2) If no blockages are found on the machine at all:
(i) wash the filter in cold water and leave it out to dry for at least 24 hours
(ii) blow out the cyclone from the bottom (open the door on the bin door - you can now look into the cyclone) - blow it out with an
air compressor or a leaf blower
(iii) Wipe all the small holes off on the cyclone with a dryer sheet
When the filter is dry put it back into the machine and test the suction again.

Progressive with Direct Drive not picking up

check and see if your brush roller is turning.remove the hose and see if you have suction.if not then you have something stuck in the suction intake. after removing the hose turn it on and put your hand over the hole wher the hose was connected to the base.if there is suction there then you have a blockage in your hose.if thats the case take the hose completely off the vacuum and take it outside and blow it out with a garden hose.if the blockage is in the intake then get a coat hanger and bend the tip so it is round, then work it down into the hole where the hose was connected to the base.you should be able to push push out the clog through the bottom.also clean all the filters real good.you can also take the filters out and then turn it on if you have suction then ,then its the filters

Suction not working

Hi,

Ok first thing to do is remove & clean the 2 piece premotor filter or purchase new.

Now remove soleplate from bottom of machine to do this rotate the 3 plastic screws to unlock position. Lift sole plate off now remove any blockagers or fluff that may be built up over the brush roller.
Remove hair from brush roll using scissors.

Check short clear hose for blockages & any damage rips or tares if it is damaged purchase new hose.

Now look at belts & rotate brush roller it should turn relatively easy if it is difficult to turn by hand remove the brush roller & pull off the end caps the axle will come out with one of the caps.
Check the roller bearings clean away dust build up replace end caps & axle spin roller holding on to end cap if freely to spin refit back on to machine.

If its stiff to rotate you will need new roller.

Now pull off the 2 inspection ports check them for bits of paper etc especialy the (U) shaped port at bottom rear of machine this can contain pens pencills stones all sorts of items that hinder the suction.

Now check the long flexi hose & metal wand for any obstructions.

If after all this machine is still not working correctly go to this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/

On this site you will find Dyson service manuals covering poor suction, clutch, motor, etc.

I lost the manual to my vacuum

Hi.

If no suction from hose check the following.
The (U) shaped inspection port at the back of machine where flexi hose enters has not come off or has a blockage.
Remove flexi hose from rear of machine once off slide it fully up the wand handle hold handle end up to a light & look up the pipe for blockages.

Check side premotor filter.
Does it pick up ok when using to vacuum carpets or is that got bad suction to ?
