SOURCE: Formula required

On sheet 4, select cell A1 and press "=" (don't press enter key).
Select the sheet 1 tab and click on the cell at the top left corner of your sheet 1 data. (dont press enter yet.) Press the "+" sign and then click on the Sheet 2 tab. Select the cell on sheet 2 at the top left corner of the data table on that sheet. Now press "+" again. Now select the sheet 3 tab and select the top left corner of the table there. Finally, press the enter key and you will be back on sheet 4. Cell A1 on sheet 4 will show the sum of the first cells of the tables on sheets 1-3.
Here's how to copy the formula on sheet 4/A1 to the other cells:
Select cells A1:A12 on sheet 4. (in other words, highlight all the cells that will become the top row of the table on sheet 4.) Now press Ctrl-R. This will copy the formula in cell A1 to all the highlighted cells to the Right of it. Finally, highlight the area that will become your table on sheet 4 (12 colums, 10 rows). Press Ctrl-d. This will copy the formulas in the first row Down to all the cells in the highlighted area below.

SOURCE: SUMIF formula

One in general should not use Find & Replace.
I would recommend always creating the first formula manually by selecting the cells. This will avoid common errors like extra spaces.

SOURCE: Need to use the VLOOKUP formula for more then one column

You probably need to organise your pricelist sheet so that you only have 2 columns, product and price. If this doesn't fix you, please provide the syntax of your vlookup code.

SOURCE: show the sum of the cells that matches with a given output

If the cell with the sum in it was created by a formula then you could use the formula to find out which cells were selected when creating it. for instance...

the sum of cells A1 - A9 would look like =sum(A1:A9)

Setting up a formula. I am comparing amounts for the last 3 years of raises and want to figure 5 different ones this year.Example of what I am trying to do. =(F6:F18*1.12%+F6:F18) Can this be done?

in excel ?
=sum(f6:f18)*0.012+sum(f6:f18)
if each row has to be individually * 0.012 add a column and put in this column each row cell * 0.012. example new column G then g6=f6+f6*0.012
a screen print of what you are trying to do would give a clearer indication of exactly what you want to achieve ?

I'm trying to figure out a 3x3 magic square where the rows equal 21 18 10 and the columns equal 15 24 13 using the numbers 1-9

I don't think you can do it! Could you check your numbers.

If we are using the numbers 1-9 once and only once in a 3x3 magic square, the sum of the rows + the sum of the columns should be 90, since 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 in the rows adds up to 45 and 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 in the columns adds up to 45.

When trying to solve, the magic number seem to be the sums 24 and 10. To get 24, the only three numbers that add to 24 are 7 + 8 +9. Similarly to get 10, the lowest numbers re 1 and 2 and the smallest big number to use is 7. I then ran out of number trying to get 21, 13 and 15 sums.

Good luck,

Paul

How program to compute the average for any number students ?

The easiest way is to add a field, name it attendance or something and assign a value of one. Then sum column a / sum column b for average.

Sum numbers in a column down until you come to a blank, then start again

Sounds like your issue can be solved readily with a pivot table.
If you give the columns of names a title like "NAME" and the number columns a name like "VALUE". All other columns should contain a unique name.

Then select the entire table, including the labels at the top ensuring that the range extends entirely over the column you need to sum the values of.

In Excel 2013, choose the INSERT menu and select the PIVOT TABLE command.
Insert the Pivot table into a new worksheet.
A new sheet will open with a strange-looking control panel on the right of the window.
Make sure that the box for NAME and VALUE (only) are checked

You will notice that Excel assumes that you want the SUM of the values for each NAME summed. The results are in the leftmost area of the worksheet.

If this works for you, please vote my answer as "helpful".

How do i insert a formula in a column to add each number & give a total at the bottom?

For example, you have three numbers from A1 to A3. On row A4, type =SUM(A1:A3).

That should do it. :)

CAN GET COLUMNS TO ADD UP AND GIVE TOTAL ONLY GET SUBTOTALS

Use the function =sum() to add numbers. To sum, for example, all of column A, enter in the formula bar =sum($A:$A). You can use the subtotal function within the range you are adding and the answer will not count towards the final total.

Hi Esd,

I'm assuming you meant 'Excel' since 'SUM' is the command you're looking for.

If your totaling Column D for rows 5 through 35, this is what you would need in the cell your total would be:

=SUM(D5:D35)

Also, when in doubt, Click on the '=' (equal sign) in the formula bar for a list of functions and help using them.

BASIC EXCEL FORMULA

Are you looking to solve any particular problem?--- because there are a huge number of possible formulas in Excel.

However, in my opinion, the most commonly needed ones are addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and summing.

Suppose you have the following numbers typed into your Excel spreadsheet:

columns: A B C D
rows
1 20 3
2 10 4
3 15 2
4 1 2 3

Then suppose you type in the following formulas (in the D column):

columns: A B C D
rows
1 20 3 =A1+B1
2 10 4 =A2-B2
3 15 2 =A3*B2
4 1 2 3 =sum(A4:C4)

Then the following answers will appear in the D column:

columns: A B C D
rows
1 20 3 23
2 10 4 6
3 15 2 30
4 1 2 3 6
