go into the language settings, and select English. Use google translate to figure out what words like settings, and language, and English look like. and if you have to look up the words in Japanese writing.
It is possible to do this, although it is not easy. It requires reprogramming the HMI in the unit. I have done this on my AVN6606HD for the majority of the functions I use and it would probably apply to other units to convert from japanese to english.

You can change from japanese version to English version without any issues. Also you need to download and install the drivers (can be obtained from Sony website) for English version of XP after installing the same.
