TomTom XL CEFC Serial No. starts GJ
If you had originally purchased a (new) TomTom with a "free" lifetime maps, you can download (from the tomtom website) updates to that map free, whenever that map is updated (usually four times a year).
If not, you can buy/subscribe to new maps on the tomtom website, (www.tomtom.com). Just click on "Maps & Services" ... and you'll be able to select and buy/subscribe to the map(s) you want.
yes how do I get the updates maps downloaded to my TomTom Navigation Device.
The easiest way is to use TomTom HOME or MyDrive Connect software (depending on which TomTom model/device you have).
After you've registered your device (on the TomTom website ... which also serves to authorize/enable TomTom support & warranty services) ... simply start up the TomTom software, connect your GPS device to the computer, turn it on and select YES to connect (to the computer), login to your TomTom Account, and the TomTom software will provide you with menu options to let you download and install new maps, software updates, etc. for your device. This way, you won't have to worry about what is the correct version, etc. (of maps/software) to download and install on your GPS device.

That website sells them, I would not know how to get them free, maybe get them of other people, but they are probably protected and for single use only.
SOURCE: no maps found??
The problem is caused by a version mismatch between the Application version and the Map Version. They must both be the same. For example, if the TomTom has not had the application updated, but you updated the maps, the TomTom will not know how to read the file.
Make sure that if you are trying to use a version 815 map, that you are using a version 8.XXX application too. I had to upload two application version changes before I could read the new USA maps.

OK... I found an amature solution;
- Do a soft reset of the system, with the paperclip (see tomtom site)
- Put the device on the docking station and connect it to power as well as to your computer. While it's turned off
- Turn on the TOMTOM while connected to the computer
- Start the TOMTOM Home software
- And it made connection again
- Disconnect the device via the software
- Take the device out of the docking station
- Turn it off and on once
This worked for me, my next step would have been the support desk. Grtz Derk

You'll have to remove enough stuff to make room for the new map. I had the same problem which is how I found this site. Turns out, the new map is larger than the one that came on the unit. The 1 GB of available space is pretty much all used when you get the GPS. Just copy all the voices and POIs that you aren't planning on using to your computer in case you change your mind later (you can just download them again for free too). As for the voices, only one works for text-to-speech anyway and that would be Samantha though a male voice is available for download.
You'll need to clear just under 4 MB to make room for the new map, and that's if you haven't added anything. Having the drive/memory on this unit just larger than the map makes it very difficult to get much use out of TomTom's great add-ons.
