The battery plug in area is dead but the surge protector side works

My battery backup ups system Cyber Powre 625avr went dead on just one row, the battery backup side and yet the surge protector outlets row works fine. This unit is out of warranty. What should I do?

I've tried the reset button to no avail.

  • LibertyBelle Nov 24, 2007

I am experiencing the same problem - the battery backup side is not working but the other side is. Also, the power on light will not come on, even though it is plugged into the wall and the red button is in the "on" position.

I checked eBay for batteries but searching for 625AVR batteries pulled up nothing. What type of replacement batteries should I be searching for?

My CyberPower 625AVR is 5 years old and just stopped working. I've read the posts about replacing the batteries, but see no way to open the unit and replace them? Thanks....

The battery you need is BP7-12. I called Cyberpower and they emailed me the info. It is easy to put in. Batteryplex.com has them for about $29. That includes shipping. There is no tax unless you live in FL.

Hello Vicki,

What you are describing is usually a result of the batteries losing their ability to hold a charge.

The surge protector side does not rely on the batteries.

I found good batteries at a reasonable cost on ebay, but I think you're going to need to replace batteries at this point.

Hope this helps.

The batteries used by Cyberpower are BB battery brand. This model uses the BP7-12, which is used in a lot of UPS brands. There are six screws on the bottom of the unit that are tucked inside of holes. Remove those and the top will come off revealing the batteries. It's really quite simple. Here's a link to that BP7-12: http://www.batteryinternational.com/cyber-power-cps625avr-ups-battery-ups-batteries-f1.html

The battery inside is a standard alarm battery, 12 volt that can be found easyly. In fact, any 12 volt rechargable battery will work. I used an old car battery and it's working good for a year now...

If the battery is dead, but the charging system is working will that stop the Battery/Surge side from working?

If you still have your dead battery connected it will work as long as there's no power loss, there are rare cases this won't happen, you can replace the damaged one for a motorcycle one or even a car battery as long as they're 12 volts and polarity setup is right, inverse polarity will kill the UPS so be careful.

My Trip Lite Internet550SER UPS battery back up /serge protector was purchased through Dell only 8 months ago. Last night we had a major strom with power outage. This morning when I came in the devise was...

Yes, it can. I have replaced more than a couple of poorly made Chinese gel-cells after fairly brief service.
Also, you can extend your UPS's service time before the battery is depleted by turning off the monitor and settings the Power Management settings to power-down hard drives after 10-20 minutes.
In my experience, the ratings on UPS systems is wildly optimistic regarding their backup capabilities.
Also; the protection against lines surges caused by even distant lightning strikes is fairly minimal.
If this is in your home, you might consider installing a 'whole house' surge arrester. Depending on the maker, they offer up to $10,000 in damage insurance to cover any losses not prevented by their devices.
The plug-in strips with 'surge protection' have a 50 cent component in them to clamp spikes to ~200VAC and these even get tired with repeated surges and eventually become totally ineffective.
If the battery checks out OK, the circuitry responsible for switching from AC line to backup mode may have already been damaged during the storm.
Switching to the 'surge protector' mode really only provides mildly conditioned AC line and involves no active electronics.

Shutting down computer

Hello,

You need a new battery. A battery store such as Batteries Plus can help you. Many Ace Hardware stores will order one for you and in fact, Radio Shack has the most common battery types in store or can get it for you. If you go through Cyber Power you will pay the highest price.

Hope this helped you.

Dynex Te685avr backup battery doesnt work

If the battery outlets do not work, typically the Dynex TE685AVR UPS (battery backup) just needs a new battery. These batteries usually last 3-5 years.

The model of the battery is a WKA12-7.5F2 and can be purchased at: http://www.replacementupsbattery.com/Product_pages/wka12-75f2.html.

CyberPower 325SL won't work...

NEVER mix surge protectors and UPS!!!. Doing so overloads whoever of the two gets connected to the wall. This equipment is built to be plugged DIRECTLY to the wall. Your unit just crossed it's inner battery. Take it to a recycling center, then stop on your favorite electronis shop and buy a new one.

Wiring Fault light

You can download the manual from the link below: http://www.sourceresearch.com/cyberpower/cyberpower-pdf.cfm?PdfPage=625_Manual.pdf The "wiring fault" could be serious, as per manual: "This LED indicator will illuminate to warn the user that a wiring problem exists, such as bad ground, missed ground, or reversed wiring. If this is illuminated, user is advised to disconnect all electrical equipment from the outlet and have an electrician check the outlet to insure proper ground." I would turn the UPS off, unplug all equipment, wait 10 seconds, reset the circuit breaker (if tripped) and turn the unit on. If you still have an issue then it's probably fried! Have you had any thunder storms or electrical power outages recently? Check your house insurance because it may cover a replacement unit.
