To 'mount' an sd card would be to insert it. The computer should recognize the new hardware and provide you with options on installing the drivers needed to use the card and options on what you can do with the card once drivers are installed (Import Pictures, View, Open, Etc.) the sd card will be mounted or installed.
To 'Unmount' or eject your sd card - you can do it if there is an icon that accesses the eject media option on your taskbar. Simply click on your sd cards name and click 'eject'. The computer will execute the necessary steps and then inform you via a prompt that the device is 'safe to eject'.
To 'Unmount' or eject your sd card via File Explorer:
- Open File Explorer
- Open This Computer
- In the field with the icon for your Hard Drive should be an icon for your sd card. Right click your icon.
- From the drop down menu click 'eject'.
- Allow the computer a brief period to prepare the device for removal.
**simply ejecting sd cards is not good for the device. Basically weakening the drive and making it more susceptible to crashes, etc. Eject properly is the rule of the day.
- Your computer will display another prompt informing you that the device is safe to eject.
