How do I know how many watts my microwave is?

It says input 1000w and output 700w. Does that mean it's a 700w microwave?

SOURCE: microwave will no longer heat. Model #MA-1000W

So we can help you, please post a NEW question, and please include your model number MA-1000Was well as the answers to these questions:

When you try to microwave are the inside light, internal cooling fan and turntable all working?

Is there any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Need to know how to roast a whole chicken

Cooking meat is not a good idea especially chicken, few microwaves have a higher enough temperature to properly cook it, you are using a 700 watt microwave, the core temperature is simply not high enough to properly cook the meat. I strongly recommend the regular oven for proper cooking and safety, plus it will taste better.

Microwave oven JVM1650SH01

I'm not finding it in the owner's manual, but there is a tag inside the cavity which should tell you either how many amps it requires or how many input watts it consumes.

If it gives you power in watts, just divide: #watts / 120V = current in amps.

If that tag doesn't tell you, maybe one on the back of the unit will.

It will probably be 13-18 amps, depending on whether its power output is 950 watts or 1200 watts.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

d:%5cele%5crepair%5cmicrowave%5cge_hotpoint%5cmini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgdee77f7.jpg

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

On that mini-manual, there should be a troubleshooting flowchart, and it will have a few different current measurement values on it. You should be able to decipher the normal draw from that.

If you're just trying to figure out how many amps the breaker should be on the microwave's power line, figure 15A for an oven rated at less than about 1000 watts output power, and 20A for an oven rated at over 1000W.

Need to operate the microwave at 230 volts

You will need a step-down transformer of the appropriate power (wattage) and the proper adapter plug for the country you'll be in. You need to look on the back of the microwave and see how many watts it CONSUMES, not how many watts of cooking power it produces. Usually the power consumption requirement should be in the ballpark of twice the power output. For a 700W (cooking power) oven, I would suspect it has about a 1400W power consumption requirement, so your step-down transformer must be rated at least 1500W. That may be cutting it close, so for lower heat and longer transformer life, I would choose a 2000 watt model. You need to be sure it comes with an adapter plug that's made for receptacles in the country you'll go to. One site I found has them for about $60. but I would read up on the subject to see if you need one of an EVEN HIGHER rating since microwave ovens do surge when they start cooking. You may need to use one rated at 3000W or more. More info: http://www.dvdoverseas.com/store/index.html?loadfile=itemthg2000.html
