1. There is a silver condensation detector in the tape compartment, rear left corner. You can try cleaning this with isopropyl alcohol. I have tried this, and it did not resolve the problem.
2. You can open the camera and unplug the power connector. This will reset the camera, and will resolve the issue for several months. I suggest looking further on this site, where there are instructions for which screws to remove to do this. I have done this, and it has resolved the issued for varying lenghts of time on my GR D30U.

It does work as a digital pass through
While the unit is in play mode
Bring up the menu and set the s/video input
(In think that's what it's called)
to "on"
Connect your analogue source to the a/v socket near the front of the camera and connect the dv out of the camera to the FireWire input of your computer
It works for me
