I did a bit of research on the internet (Google mostly), and noticed several articles regarding the Inspiron and their batteries. You could be having a faulty battery or a problem with the computer Without more information or specific errors I would like you to try running diagnostics from Dell website. You may also try connecting the battery to another Inspiron 6000 laptop and see if the problem follows the battery. You could also check the voltage of the power supply.

The only way you cna restore the Dell back to the original settings is to use the Dell recovery CD for your model Dell. You can get one from the Dell WEB site.
You can download the device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on thislink to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen
Go into your BIOS and set it back to factory default. After you do that look at the page that lists your memory and see if both 2GB memory sticks are recognized. If one of them still isn't being recognized. You'll have to physically go inside of the computer and look at your memory slots to see how much memory is in each slot. Its possible you might not see both 2 GB memory sticks. If you do see both then one of them might be bad and you would need to talk to that tech shop to get it replaced.
I you restore your laptop to factory settings, all data and software installed would be lost. i f you are fine with that or u have backed up the data already, follow the below process:
I have assumed that you have windows vista or windows 7:
Power off the laptop. Remove any peripheral devices such as speakers, printers or flash drives that are not necessary to this operation. Power on the laptop while holding down the "F8" key until the advanced boot options menu appears.
Move the arrow key to "Repair Your Computer." Hit the "Enter" key.
Select the language settings to be used for the recovery process with the arrow keys and hit "Next." Log in, if necessary. Press "Next."
Choose "Dell Factory Image Restore" OR "Complete PC restore" to restore the drive's original factory settings, and click on "Next."
Check the box next to the "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition" option. Select "Next" and the computer will recover itself based on its configuration settings in the recovery partition.
This will take your computer on the day you bought it. You will get all application back which were pre-installed and will loose everything which you put by yourself.
Hi, this is a common problem with a vista update, dont know why it does it, just does! When it tries to restart keep pressing the 'F8' button and you should get advanced boot options menu where you can get windows to try and repair itself to an earlier restore point, if the problem persists then I'm afraid you'll be looking at restoring back to original factory settings. Below is an extract from the Dell manual found at http://book-lab.ru/pdf/DELL-INSPIRON/service_manual_for_DELL_Inspiron_1525.pdf
Restoring the Computer to the Default Factory Configuration The Dell Factory Image Restore option allows you to restore your hard drive back to its original factory configuration as when you first ordered it from Dell. This option appears on Dell computers that were originally pre-installed with Windows Vista® and does not include computers purchased through the Express Upgrade promotion or computers that were upgraded to Windows Vista from another version of Windows. NOTICE: When you restore the computer to the default factory configuration, all data on the C drive is deleted. Before performing this procedure, back up personal files. If you do not back up personal files, the data is lost. 1 Restart the computer. To do this, click Start → → Restart. 2 As the computer restarts, press <F8> until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen. NOTE: You must press the <F8> key before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press <F8> after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen. 3 Press <Down Arrow> to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press <Enter>. 4 Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next. 5 Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK. 6 Click Dell Factory Image Restore. 7 In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next. 8 Select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition checkbox. 9 Click Next. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration. When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.
Your power settings must have gotten changed. You have to go to the control panel, power options, click on the advanced tab and there should be an option asking "when I close the lid on my portable computer:" There should be a selection list for you to choose from.
To restore the computer to the Original Factory settings perform the following steps: Turn off the Computer connect it to the Power outlet with Adapter Turn on the laptop The moment you see the Dell Logo, Press the Ctrl Key and start tapping the F11 key. You will get a screen which will give you options to restore the computer. Select the option which says Restore to Original Factory Settings. It will run the restore and your computer will be restored to Factory setting within 15 - 20 minutes.
Note: you will lose all the programs and applications that you have installed and also the files and documents stored in your computer (including the email in Outlook). You computer will be as it was when you first Purchased it.
P.S: You can restore the system to Factory settings only if you have not formatted or replaced the Original Hard Drive.
Hope you find this information helpful.

If the system has the original Dell image, then just after the Dell Bios splash screen should be a black screen with w blue bar at the top with www.dell.com at the top.
At that screen press CTRL + F11 to initiate the PC Restore program.
