Desulphators were considered crank devices until the late 1970's and it is true they were whether they were devices or chemicals to add to the cells.

Austin-Rover, a UK car manufacturer, had half an airfield covered with unsold cars, the majority having discharged batteries for so long they were unrecoverably sulphated. The cost of replacing those batteries as sales picked up again would have been prohibitive especially considering the amount of discount that must be given off the purchase price of the cars.

A specialist electrical company (Wilkes and Son) was commissioned to investigate and develop a machine that would recover those batteries. The company produced high quality electrical test equipment and garage workshop equipment. Their Wilkson test set was the standard in the majority of colleges in the UK.
The company developed a programmed battery charger that produced a coarse square wave output which would alternate between charge and discharge that was successful and was put into production, unfortunately it was such a large and expensive machine few were sold because the motor industry was happy selling as many replacement batteries as possible.

Typically once Wilkes had done the development and proved the technology it didn't take long for others to cash in and soon much smaller and cheaper versions were freely available.

The answer to your question is yes they do work but the success depends on the age and state of the battery to some extent and it isn't a quick process. There are other maladies a battery can suffer from other than sulphation and the true battery state wouldn't be known until your battery has been desuphated.

I suggest you invest in new batteries and a battery maintainer, either solar or mains powered which will greatly extend the life of batteries by preventing the sort of neglect that shortens battery life.

Duralast DL-50D Engine Startr/Bat Chargr, connect pos cable to pos battery neg cable to frame. Pluggd in and cables reversed and charging lights both come on for second or two. Then a pulsing noise.

Not sure whether the pulsing noise is a desulphation mode - suggest you read the instructions and specification. A genuine desulphation charger is generally in an entirely different price bracket.

The charger might be short circuit protected and that might be what is causing the pulsing - when a battery connection is lost while the engine is running, there can be one heck of a voltage surge.
I have known such an event wipe out almost every piece of electronics in a vehicle - it fried the alternator, the management system, the radio and even the instrument voltage regulator and attempting to jump start it made lots of sparks due to a shorted alternator.

I suggest you try charging the battery after disconnecting it from the vehicle just to make sure.

My new chair battery dead why won't it take a charge

Typically batteries over time will sulfate and will not charge. You can try using a desulfating charger.

I have an error code of FOO ?

Joseph, No F00 maybe contact company. Digital Battery Charger Error Code Explanation Chart. Check the attached links,
"I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button. Check out some of my other posts if you need more tips and info."

ERROR CODE DESCRIPTION REASON/ SOLUTION F01 The battery voltage is still under 10V (for a 12V battery) or 5V (for a 6V battery) after 2 hours of charging. Could be caused by trying to charge a 6V battery on a 12V setting or charger, or the battery could be bad, have it checked or replaced. F02 The charger cannot desulfate
the battery. The battery could not be desulfated, have it checked
or replaced. F03 The battery was unable to reach the "full charged" voltage. Could be caused by trying to charge a large battery or bank of batteries on too low of a current setting or the battery may have a shorted cell. Try again with a higher current setting or have the battery checked or replaced. F04 The connections to the battery
are reversed. The battery is connected backwards. Unplug the charger and reverse the connections to the battery. F05 The charger was unable to keep the battery fully charged in maintain mode. The battery won't hold a charge. Could be caused by a drain on the battery or the battery could be bad. Make sure there are no loads on the battery. If there are remove them.
If there are none, have the battery checked or replaced. F06 The charger detected that the battery may be getting too hot (thermal runaway). The charger automatically shuts the current off if it detects the battery may be getting too hot or the battery may have a shorted cell. Have the battery checked or replaced.

Mains adapter for auto-xs power station not working

It could be that the internal battery is too discharged for the AC charger (as supplied with the Power Station) to work.
You could try charging the Power Station using a Vehicle (Car/Motorbike) 12 Volt battery charger, connecting the Crocodile clips on each unit.
I''ve just done that, although once 'I'd got the Power Station battery's voltage above 2 Volts, I used a 'special' charger (Optimate 5) that automatically applies several modes including 'Desulfation' for recovery.

I have the SSC-1500A battery charger and the yellow light keeps flashing. The yellow light is the charging light.not sure why

This unit will assume a battery voltage less than 1.5 volts means the battery is sulfated. The flashing yellow light means it has gone into 'desulfate' pulse mode using pulses of high voltage to try and convert the lead sulfate back into sulfuric acid and lead plating. It will do this for about 8 hours on the charger I have. If the voltage has not raised to a level that can can accept a normal charge it will abort the pulse mode and stop trying to charge it. You will need to unplug and replug in the charger to try again. Always check the temperature of the battery while charging it and especially if the charger is in pulse mode. Stop charging if the battery is hot. *always wear safety gear*

Battery has not been ussed in over a year and now will not recharge

Chances are that the charger is fine....battery is junk. Had the same issue with my kids' Barbie Jeep. Instead of buying a new battery for $60, I used my Sears 12 volt drill/driver battery by locating the positive and negative on the battery and pos neg on the machine. I bought slide on electrical clips from the hardware store and WHAM....worked fine! Actually better because I have 5 Batteries for my drill and with a smart charger, it only takes an hour to charge. They were bombing all over the yard all day! I just had to keep the batteries charging every hour or so.
