Thread breaking is normally caused by tension being too tight or by incorrect threading. If it is loose and jiggly, it isn't tight. Maybe your bobbin tension is too tight, and your top tension is far too loose.
Is the thread coming off the Thread Take Up? That will cause issues. Another thing would be to take apart the bobbin area and clean it thoroughly. If you have one of the sewing machine vacuum attachments that would be the best way to clean it. Good luck.

Question. I own a Topaz 20 - 6 months old. With my old Janome, I could open it up in two places to clean out dust and lint. I can't find a way to do this with the new machine. Does this mean every time I need to have it cleaned, I have to take it into a dealer? This will add up fast. I sew a lot.
The Topaz 30 is a relatively new machine and should still be under Viking's warranty if you bought it new from an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer. Suggest you take it back to an authorized dealer--preferably the one where you bought it. The machines have a 5 and 20 year warranty for parts, etc. Most dealers will give you a 6 months to 1 year warranty if you bought it from them. There have been a couple of software updates released for this model. You can find more information at the husqvarna viking website. By clicking on the "Dealer's" link you can find the nearest authorized dealer. http://www.husqvarnaviking.com
Your embroidery unit needs to be re-calibrated. Check your user manual to determine if that's something you can do. Otherwise, you'll need to have an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer do the calibration and make sure the hoop sensor is working via the service menu. You can find authorized dealers close to you at the Husqvarna Viking website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us Good luck.
