SOURCE: PROGRAMMING

here is a link to the manual for your radio (english http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/bearcatting.html#motoman They do not give out the information of how to program it, only authorised technicians are permitted to do so. Here is the link to motorola customer support in Puerto Rico https://www.motorola.com/pr/feedback.jsp They should be able to tell you where you can get your radio programmed, and what programming is permitted in PR. Hope this helps :)

Short of having a radio tech look at the radio, I would suggest looking at the grill and mic hole to see if there is dirt or debris blocking the hole.

Your radios might need reprogramming. This is done by a Motorola dealer using the appropriate cable and software. The software is not available for end-users. Cost generally is $35-$40 US.

From the information you provided, it is unclear if the radios previously worked together; or if the radios are the same model number. These are facts the dealer would be able to inquire about, and it would help them determine if your radios can talk to one another.

Programing a rdm 2080d

It is possible your PL code setting is not set the same as the other unit. Here is a link to the user guide http://www.mytoolstore.com/motorola/rdx_userguide.pdf You will find programming instructions starting on page 36.
Secondly, it is possible you have a bad or poorly charged battery. No transmit is a common problem with a bad battery, as it takes more energy to transmit than to receive. Trade batteries with a known good unit and see if it solves the problem.
If programming and/or the battery are not the issue, your radio is likely in need of repair.
Best regards.

I just purchased two Baofeng BF 888s radios and had them programmed to our frequency here. They will both receive and transmit with each other but not transmit to the radios we already had. Any ideas?

Your radios could be programmed with subaudible tones (CTCSS) or digital code squelch (DCS) which the new radios do not have. They can be programmed for it, you need to find out what tone/code you are using.
It could also be that your existing radios are programmed for a "duplex" repeater channel, with different transmit and receive frequencies. The new radios might be on the "repeater output" frequency so they would not activate the repeater.
Both could be the case, missing tone and duplex frequencies.
I would check the programming of the new and old radios, especially for tone/code squelch.

How to change the squelch on mtx8000

You can always have a radio receive. To transmit require an FCC License, and you need authorization to "Talk" to Public Safety. There are large fines and possible jail time to talk on channels you are not authorized for, especially Public Safety. Sadly, your radio is programmed to monitor only when the button is held down. The frequencies in your area working are a lucky coincidence. Take it to an Authorized Motorola Dealer and pay to have it reprogrammed. Radio is not field programmable. Hold onto your wallet, they are expensive to have programmed. You should have bought a high end digital scanner.

My motorola sx800 goes on but when you push the talk button to communicate it always goes the same way like how you turn it on first. so i hope i can get some answers for my motorola walkie talkie.

It sounds like a bad, defective, or low battery. It takes more energy to transmit than to receive, or to be idle on standby. Pressing the PTT button to transmit with a low or bad battery would cause the radio to shut down or nearly shut down.

Try another battery pack in your radio or swap batteries with a known good unit to confirm the battery is the problem.

Other problems might include the battery being poorly charged. Check your charger. Or you could have an overall problem with the radio itself. This is a non-repairable unit, so if it is the radio you would need to retire it.

Clean all your battery contacts with a pencil eraser to make certain of a good connection.

Best regards.

My motorola RDU2020 radio receives but does not transmit calls

1) You possibly have a bad or nearly dead battery. Transmit takes more energy than receiving. With this in mind, your radio's transmit will fail, if you have a poorly charged or bad battery, when pressing the PTT. Try a battery from a known good radio to see if it eliminates the problem. If so, replace your battery.

2) The radio is either programmed incorrectly or in need of repair. If you have been experimenting with the programmable features, we suggest you walk back through the steps of programming. Here is a link to the user guide: http://www.mytoolstore.com/motorola/rdx_userguide.pdf Programming instructions begin on page 36.

3) If in need of repair. Radios less than one year old should be under warranty, barring any physical or water damage to the unit. Contact the place of purchase or Motorola for warranty instructions.
If the radio is more than one year old you can get it repaired at any dealer offering Motorola repair. (approx. $85 flat rate)

Best regards.

I can't get the radios to communicate with eachother, they have power and chirp when I press the talk button but nothing is being received.??? They look like the EM1000 model of Motorola radios. The FCC...

These are multi-channel FRS / GMRS radios. In order to receive transmitted signals from the other radio, they both must be set to the same Channel and the same Interference Eliminator Code. One without the other will keep audio from being heard on the receiving radio.

I suspect you need to refresh yourself with the radio's controls and settings. If you have lost the manual, you can get a copy free of charge from Motorola You'll need a free program called Adobe Reader to view it.

Once you have everything - look at the right hand side of page 1 for "Talking and Listening" followed by "Menu Options" to set the radios up correctly. Keep in mind that if VOX is selected, and there is sound near both radios, they both will transmit at the same time - since the radios receive OR transmit at any given time, no audio will be heard from either.

Please rate this reply if helpful & good luck!

Can transmit to other frs radios but cannot

Check the "code" (interference eliminator code) on the FR60 and set it to off or zero. It appears from your description the Cobras do not have "code" turned on. Refer to your user guide to find the instructions for turning off the code. (As of this date we have not found an FR60 manual posted online.)

Best regards.
