Message for John Potter : Hi John. You answered a question on a dead Korg N1, and I seem to have the same problem (display back light comes on, but no patch info and no output at all.) However, I've also tried to use it as a MIDI keyboard to see if there is any MIDI output, and that's dead as well. Would this be another symptom of a dead battery, or do I have a bigger problem?

Couldn't find any ROM battery on a Korg N1 keyboard.

might be a soldered in one, these can be removed by a competent person and anew one fitted. Sourcing that may be time consuming but most items are common application and made in China.

It sounds like your ROM battery, which the ROM contains and stores the patches for the keyboard, has gone completely dead and your keyboard is dead in the water. However, if you can get a MIDI to USB converter and get the battery changed, then you can reload the patches back onto the keyboard.

I have worked on a Korg M1 Workstation and have had to replace the battery(CR2032) and then had to run a program called "MIDI-OX" which also gave me access to the patches needed in order to restore the keyboard to factory patch settings.

http://www.midiox.com/

Take a look at this AFTER you have gotten the battery replaced. I will tell you that replacing most batteries is a very intricate job as, the bottom of the keyboard has to be removed, as well as a lot of the internal boards. I had to draw a diagram and mark certain pieces so I would know where they went and in what order they have to be re-attached. My advice is take it to someone who works on electronics unless you want to DIY (not recommended) to get the battery replaced.

Hope this helps.

On my Korg X2 workstation, the LCD screen displays INIT I the combination A & B banks, and the program A & B banks. The same sounds is in all of these settings and I can't change it. How do I fix it?

How to Initialize (reset), and preload on the Korg X2/X3/X3R
Initialization: Hold Page Down and 0 while turning it on
Preload: Disk Load (XSD00P)
ROM Check: Hold Enter and 7 while turning it on.
If banks names are lost, you need to replace the little round coin-pill from inside, which memorize settings while the instrument is off and disconnected from the power.

Hi i got the korg pa50sd when i swith it on it shows me korg pa50sd boot loading files then this goes off, still the light on display is on but blank display with nothing on it ,. i was trying to find any...

NOT a fuse... thaat person knows nothing. There is something wrong for sure. Check if one of the buttons or keys MIGHT be stuck down (depressed). Sometimes the units check that all the control buttons are up and they don't really tell you why they fail to start. Beyond this a repair shop is in order.

When i switch on my Korg PA800, the screen just show's blank. The screen light gets on but just blank blue. What could be the problem?

Hi, Provided your Korg works as normal, besides the display being blank and lit, I may have the answer. It sounds like the contacts connecting the display have somehow become dirty. This could have happened from something getting spilled on the display. To fix is easy enough if you have a little mechanical aptitude. unplug unit/take batteries out,and disassemble unit to gain access to the main circuit board where screen is located, the screen may be held in place with a tin casing either soldered to board or with prong set though the circuit board and twised on the reverse side to hold in place. After removing this there should be a little rubber strip between the screen and circuit board-this is the contact strip that you need to clean with rubbing alcohol. Clean the screen where the contact strip meets the screen. do the same on the circuit board, reassemble and you should be back in business. I hope this was useful, thanks for asking FixYa, and good luck, Prodzilla.
