Since the exact model number manual is not available go to Sears and look at the compressors they have on the floor (or in the catalog). Find one that looks like the one you have and note the model number (these devices haven't changed much over the years). order the manual for the one that matches your machine the best.
The pressure setting for on off of the compressor , and the operating pressure don't have to be the same. You should have two gauges. One for tank pressure, and one for operating pressure. Turn the large knob on the operating pressure, ccw to decrease and cw (clockwise) to increase. You can download a manual for your compressor at: http://powertool.manualsonline.com/ex/thread/view/idThread/839583
Craftsman compressors are model numbers starting with a 919.xxxxxx Find this number and look it up on searspartsdirect.com. Some manuals are available for viewing without purchase. Eric
I WOULD TRY DISCONNECTING THE PIPING FROM THE HEAD DOWN TO THE TANK AND SEE IF ITS BLOWING AIR. COULD THE COMPRESSOR BE RUNNING BACKWARDS - YOU WOULD HAVE HAD TO CHANGE THE WIRING IN THE MOTOR.
VALVES IN THE HEAD COULD ALSO BE BROKEN. YOU CAN REMOVE THE INTAKE AND IT SHOULD **** YOUR FINGERS AT THE OPENING. HOPE THIS HELPS.
