Maybe you could try the auto-set. Found this using google:
Auto code search

1. switch on the TV and select a channel eg. Bbc1 on the TV itself
2. press the appropriate device button eg. TV
3. press the green SET button for approx 5 seconds until the red light comes on.
4. release the green SET button and point the remote at the device to be controlled, the remote will emit a test signal about every 2 seconds.
5. when the TV switches itself off briefly press the green SET button to store the code found.
6. when the red light goes out the search is ended.
7. try out the remote if it works follow the same steps to set it to other devices eg. DVD. If it does not work follow the steps again.
cover other remote sensors on other devices when setting the remote.

It is probably a bad x or y drive board or a power supply issue. I know that is vague but any or all of these can cause the problem.

unit seems to go into protect mode.Theres very little that can be done..There is good chance unit needs to be checked at a repair shop.Try to find one that is authorized for your particular brand if possible

i have a denon 1720 dvd player. When you press the power button it comes on for 3 seconds then the power button turns back red and powers off. If you press the eject button within the 3 seconds the tray opens and the power button stays green. As soon as you close the tray the power agin goes to red. i have a denon 1720 dvd player. Same problem with my Sony. Unplugging for 36 hours solved the problem

hy i got a toshiba 42" LCD tv ,when i press the power boton
iget the red light,& it stay that way ontil i pressthe power back off
