Samsung Plasma TV Model: PN51D450A2D I am getting a blurry purple bar across the middle of my tv. It is most noticeable when the screen is mostly light colors whites, greys, yellows, etc.. Not as noticeable when the screen is primarily darker colors.
Plasma screens are extremely susceptible to getting broken from any impacts to the face of the screen. What you are describing sound very much like distorted or dead pixels. It may not be a fixable issue, you may have to replace the entire unit or live with the purple bar. The reason you don't notice it as much when the screen is dark is because purple is on the darker end of the spectrum, and will be most visible in contrast to lighter ad brighter colors.

that is called diffusion. that can be adjusted out in most cases by adjusting the y sustain pcb but can also be the main pcb, the logic pcb and panel itself but not likely.

I would have it looked at before saying it is burn in, a BLACK horizontal line across the set is loss of data to the display from the Y-drive panel. This is something the customer should not attempt anyway, however, if it is either the upper or lower drive board they are not that expensive. Let me know the outcome.

I'm not really sure what causes this but I might be able to help.
I have an LG 42 plasma which had the same problem. In my case I removed the video and the tuner board (they both were mounted on the same frame which was screwed on the tv chassis) and installed them in a "wooden box" so that there would be no electrical contact with the rest of the chassis except from the cables connected to them. It now works fine.
