SOURCE: Fisher and paykel vertical freezer N308 model

bec,

Sounds like you are freezing up! The coils are so frost-laden that they will not allow the unit to function. The unit will need a complete defrost. I'm not familiar with the exact layout of this unit but I can tell you that it needs to be shut down, have warm air blown into the fan area and completely freed of ice. If you just leave it open and turned off, this takes about 2 days.

Possible causes: humidity in the air is condensing...very humid area, too much 'window shopping', not closing the door completely, possible damaged door gasket.

Others: (on older units)

Possible defrost timer problem...or low gas. Try the defrost route. We'll go from there.

do you have voltage at the compressor? if not you have an open circuit or bad t-stat. if voltage is present and compressor is not running you have a bad start device or bad compessor. if voltage present and compressor runs you have a refrigeration issue get a new freezer.

SOURCE: Freezer starting to defrost

Hi,
As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

What is the orange light for on unidentified freezer?

If that orange light is on the front of the freezer, on the top or bottom, it is very likely a light telling you the freezer is not cold enough inside, and the food is in danger of spoiling.
It may also be a "on" light.
If you will find a freezer thermometer and put it inside, you can tell whether it is an "on" light or a warning light.
Usually freezers run temperatures of about 10 degrees Fahrenheit or lower if they are working correctly.
God bless your efforts.

I have a kenmore upright frost free freezer mod #253.26432100. A couple of months ago everything defrosted and the unit was not running at all. I unplugged it cleaned it and plugged it back in, it turned...

You have a problem with the ADC.

Frigidaire has also jumped into the market with an adaptive defrost board. The fresh food section light switch and light bulb must work. To initiate a defrost cycle, open the door and push the light switch in and out 5 times within 6 seconds. The compressor and fans should shut off and the defrost heater should come on. Open the door and push the light switch in and out 5 times within 6 seconds to remove the refrigerator from the defrost mode and back into a cooling mode.

This product comes equipped with an Adaptive Defrost Control (ADC). To activate manual defrost, press and hold the Freezer temperature UP (WARMER) key while pressing the Fresh Food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds. A "d" in the freezer temperature window and "F" in the refrigerator temperature window will display when the heater is activated. To deactivate manual defrost, press and hold Freezer temperature UP (WARMER) key while pressing the Fresh Food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds. "d" and "F" will be displayed until the defrost cycle is complete. (approx. 8 minutes)

Miele F7131 S The red alarm and the orange -32 degrees orange light on the front of my under counter freezer keep flashing. I have defrosted it. It appears cold but the lights will not stop flashing.

Freezer Temp. shoud be 0 to -5 Deg. if to warm it will set off the alarm. try unpluging or turn off power to freezer for 1 or 2 min. to see if it will reset.

Freezer says "of" on display

I assume that stands for off... there are 2 parts that affect compressor operation...
t'stat
timer
t'sat could keep the compressor from running if it is bad. to check unplug freezer. . get to t'sat and take the 2 wires off it. then jump them together.. plug back in if the compressor kicks on he replace t'sat if it dont replace timer (timer maybe stuck in defrost)

Things is melting

First is it just a freezer or refrigerator and freezer? About the best way to find out what type of defrost system it has is by going by the model number. Some have a simple defrost timer located most times inside the fresh food compartment and less likely behind the kick plate at bottom front of the refrigerator. Some of the newer models have and Adaptive Defrost Control Located inside the control Panel and inside the fresh food compartment. Most times it is most likely the defrost timer or ADC that is defective that causes the problem. Next will be the defrost heater and defrost thermostat located inside the freezer and behind the rear panel of the freezer. Before doing any of this on your own I recommend that you unplug the refrigerator before removing any covers or touching anything powered up. There we will need to check the defrost element and defrost thermostat for continuity. I will help you find and solve the problem if you need and if you can locate the model number that would tell us what to look for better, Please let me know if you need more assistance or if this has been helpful, Thank You Sea Breeze

Its not freezing!! keeping things cool, but not freezing

I would definitely start by checking if the fan is working. Note that the fan is switched off when you open the door, so you need to press the door switch and then check if it is working. If not, that will be the problem.

Freezer defrosted and the motor won't start back up.

From what I can gather, you have a self defrosting freezer and the "motor" you speak of is the fan inside the freezer. If this is correct, do this:
Unplug freezer. Unload all food into coolers or other freezer space. Leave freezer door open for a day to allow it to manually defrost. Plug freezer back in after minimum 24 hours and confirm fan running and cooling before loading back up with food.
