Just for clarification, for myself and future readers, this is a built-in wall oven/microwave combo unit. Looking at the unit I cannot see how microwave unit will come out by itself. I found the installation instructions. The manufacturers pictures and instructions clearly show this combo installed as a single unit. I was hoping it was not. I appreciate Peter's expedient response but I think we may have been discussing two different oven/microwave units.

Hello Richard; Around the microwave there are border retaining strips. Inside one of your cupboards is a plug to disconnect the power to your microwave. Disconnect the power. Then remove the restraining strips. Lift up and pull out. Leave the oven door open. Pull out the top rack to set the microwave on. I hope this helps. The microwave is on a separate rack.

Thanks Peter. I got the parts I ordered yesterday. I do not have a plug, at least not in any adjacent cabinets. According to installation manual there is only one power cord that is required to be hardwired in a box. I do not think there is enough room above to raise as the control panel covers 1/2 of the cabinet board above. The control panel appears to fastened on the back side as there are no visible screws. There is a vent between the control panel and microwave. It appears to hold the two chrome filler strips on each side of microwave. I'm going to start there and see what I got. But I'm thinking I will probably pull the unit out as that is how the manual shows it installed. I'll keep you posted.

Hello Richard;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service technician.

Your microwave is in a separate housing than your oven. You need to remove the border stripping holding the micro wave in the wall, then lift up in the front and pull out.

Go into the following website, put in your model number which is on a label after you open the microwave door.

You did not tell me what the problem is. Please advise so I can help you further.

KitchenAid KCMC155J 1000 Watts Convection / Microwave Oven - how to change the light bulbs - can this be done without having to call a tech?

The service number for this microwave is 1-800-422-1230. I have seen this question posted on several sites with no answers. Also, I checked the Owner's Manual and I do not see an answer to this question. If I had to guess, I would say that if there is no access from the inside of the microwave, you may have to remove it from the wall as the access might be on the back of the unit.

I have a Kichenaid microwave Model # KCMS145JSS-1 No lights, no readout, completly dead. Power source checked and o.k. Any thoughts?

I would suspect the fuse, the magnetron's thermal cutout / thermostat, or the oven cavity thermal cutout / thermostat.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here (just enter your model number).

Accessing some components (especially the oven cavity thermostat) for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall and take off the outer cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download Kitchenaid owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

Burned out bulb on Kitchen Aid Microwave Model KBMC140

You will need to remove the oven from the wall and remove the outer cover.

If for some reason you don't have yours, you can download your owner's manual and installation instructions free from this page.

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

These models use halogen lamps. You must not touch halogen types with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

You should be able to get one from a home center or local appliance parts store.

If you order it online (from the link above) it is part # 4375348.

Broken torsion spring needs to be replaced

There are indeed two springs that "cross" each other, and they must be both be replaced to ensure full strength.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Removing a built in Jenn-Air Microwave from it cabinet...

First of all, what are the symptoms? Please reply back and I'll be happy to share my thoughts.

Many parts can be accessed without removing the oven from the wall by just removing the control panel.

You need to be sure the cord is unplugged, then you remove the vent grille that runs across the top.

Then you'll see a screw holding the control panel in place. Once that screw is out, you can lift out and out carefully to separate the control panel form the chassis.

If you pull any wires off the control panel, mark and/or photograph them first to be sure you get them ALL back in the right place.

There may also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

Before you start, we have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site. You'll find a link to our site in our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

While they don't have their installation instructions online, the owner's manual is online here.

Oven Halogen Lamp

It's pretty simple to replace the light without having to remove the oven from the wall...as long as you have an offset phillips screwdriver...

Of course, be sure to disconnect power to microwave and be sure not to touch the new halogen bulb with fingers.

STEP-BY-STEP:
First, remove upper vent panel and remove inner filter (same directions for just replacing inner carbon filter):
5c3b6e2.jpg 38afa6d.jpg af02b4c.jpg

Then, remove inner plastic grille (2 screws) and final screw on left side of metal "air duct" - here's where you'll need the offset screw driver (and a little patience!):

Then, you can gently lift the sheet metal panel, find the light housing, squeeze and remove/replace :)

That's it...just replace bulb and reverse for reassembly. Be sure to keep track of screw locations there are various sizes/lengths used.
