SOURCE: Portable DVD Player will not power up
This player should be charged up until the green light goes out to be fully charged. I usually leave them on over night.

the battery pack is charging but not holding charge beacause it was not used for a long time as you said.try to recharge and completely drain the batteries a couple of times and the batteries should start holding better the charge.Another thing you may want to check is if there is power coming out at teh battery pack connectors(you will need a small volt meter)

I own the same DVD player. If the player runs from the AC Adapter but not from the battery (Adapter plugged into the battery) chances are the battery has worn out and it needs to be replaced. Trick is to find a battery for less than $40

check the microswith near the hinge .
its generally located on near the back right corner of the player , on the control surface. it looks like a very small white plastic button or pip. sometimes these stick down and look like part of the player casing, when they actually are a switch. it needs to be raised , so when the lid is closed it pushes the pip down and turns the screen off. Try prising it gently free with a pin or needle.
this happened tome and i was on the verge of binning it. when i looked at the manual and it says
power light flashing slowly means screen turned off.
if the light is flashing very quickly then im afraid its knackerred and just not worth repairing.
