SOURCE: washing machine wont work on certain settings

the selector switch for loads is just a switch that connects parts of the timed cycle to the timer circuit. if the timer is not rotating then nothing will work. check the connections through the selector switch. burnt or melted contacts within the switch calls for a new switch. try repair clinic dot com for a replacement.

SOURCE: Maytag Performa Washing Machine

Before you do anything else..UNPLUG it from the 240volt supply ! Read ALL of this before attempting the fix. After draining out the water, lay the machine down to expose the inner workings. You'll need to find the pressure switch which is connected by an thin rubber or plastic tube from the wash tub. Check that it is is properly connected.(YOu may have to cut off a little of each and to give you a an "as new" airtight sealed fitting. A little smear of quikgrip glue around the nozzle at each end will ensure a longlife airtight fit of the tubing.) BUT before you do the final glueing and fitting of the tube. Just have the tube at the pressure switch nozzle connected and BLOW into it. You should hear an audible click when blowing and relesing the air. Even if you hear this, it only confirms that the diaphragm in the pressure switch is ok. It does not tell you if the two way switch inside it of good integrity. By integrity I mean the condition of the switching CONTACTS, As they carry high current, they eventually burn and pit and can become of such HIGH resistance to the flow of current that there is none when the switch is in fact physically in the on position. General Electric Washing Machine want agitate. The washer fills, spins, drains but simply stops agitating or washing during different cycles. I have checked the lid switch, coupling under the agitator and...

The water level switch may be going bad. As the water level rises to the proper level, it switches a set of contacts inside to stop the water fill and cause the machine to start agitation. Make sure machine is empty before you replace the water level switch---it works off of air pressure from a small hose attached to it.

My wahser just stopped working it filled with water and then started agitating and then all the sudden stopped please help

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water

    WATER FILLS WONT SHUT OFF

The pressure swith (load size) is what controls that chang that. A small hose runs from the bottom of your tub and as the water fills a measerd amount of water fills that tube and pressure build up in their operates that switch and activates the timer to stop filling and start agitating.

Hi, when pulling the select knob, no water, just the agitator.

Bad timer, the timer is not telling your system the correct setting and just jumping to a setting of its choice. Once the timer is replaced everything will work just fine.

Washing machine fills, but will not agitate, drain or spin

Coupling broken which joins the motor to the gear box. Look and see or listen if the motor is running then if nothing else is working coupling is broke, easy to replace.

GE washing machine does not run, gives humming noise

A washing machine is a simple product.

When trouble shooting anything you have to know what is supposed to do and what is it not doing.

At the begining of a washing machine cycle the machine fills with water until a switch is made telling the machine it is full and ready to agitate. Since it never fills it will stick in that part of the cycle.

When you start a cycle and no water enters the drum you have one of three problems:

    1. The water supply is shut off.
    2. The solenoid valve that supplies the water is not opening.
    3. No power to the washing machine.

Since you are hearing a hum, the machine seems to be trying to activate that valve,
The humming noise comes from the electromagnetic field that activates the valve,

Washing machine fills in the water but does not start the wash cycle

The fact that it does not fill completely can be related to a problem with the water-level switch, that regulates the water level.

    See from Repairclinic:
"This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch."

However, when it is only the switch the mashine usually completes the cycle, but with less water than normal.

A possibilty is that either the timer is faulty or there is a problem with the water supply.

Check that water is coming from water supply with regular pressure, and that hoses back there are not obstructed.

More likely you will have to replace the timer.

    See again from Repairclinic:
"When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.
