Sony DVD RW (Model DRU-840A) Drivers

Have you tried changing the boot order.

If you're trying to use it as a boot device you need to tell the system to boot the cd /dvd drive FIRST and of course you need to have a bootable cd / dvd in the drive.

Let me know if you're already tried this.

I have a sony dru 820a dvd writer,it is not detecting the cd/dvd when inserted but it makes some wierd sound and does not read the inserted media

Update your Chipset drivers, and download the updated drivers and Firmware from Sony:

Sony DRU-840a DVD-RW shuts down PC when blank discs are inserted.

I have the same problem with my sony so i tried various liton burners and they did they did the same blue screens. I tried Dell for the suggested BIOS up date but their latest was older than the one I had so I didn't install it. I suspect the problem is more with Nero than anything else.

Sony dru-840a firmware

Seems i "downgraded" from a Plextor 716A. My Sony DRU-840A refuses to burn in multi session mode. I bought the retail version of Nero 8. Now i am suggested to update the DRU-840 firmware. Either the firmware update doesn't exist, or its hidden really well on the Sony website.... Maybe i should just throw this Sony away and replace with another Plextor... AHA!!! I think I'll do that!!!!
