I have a almost 6 yr old GE JVM1650 over the cooktop microwave. When
the turntable is set to "on" and the microwave is turned on, it starts
making some strange grinding kinda noise. Sometimes it stops
after say 20-40 secs
and other instances the noise does not stop until the heating cycle is complete.
When the turntable is "off", there is no noise from the microwave.
Suggestions to fix this problem is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Sounds like the turntable motor is going bad.

The turntable makes a grinding noise everytime I turn the microwave on. It doesn't seem to turn anymore
We thought the fan motor was going because of the noise--a clattering noise that wasn't there earlier. I came to this website for troubleshooting and there I read the comment about the turntable making noise. I tried my oven and stopped the turntable -I found that there was no noise when I stopped the turntable.
