GE JVM1650 truntable noise

I have a almost 6 yr old GE JVM1650 over the cooktop microwave. When the turntable is set to "on" and the microwave is turned on, it starts making some strange grinding kinda noise. Sometimes it stops after say 20-40 secs
and other instances the noise does not stop until the heating cycle is complete.

When the turntable is "off", there is no noise from the microwave.

Suggestions to fix this problem is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The turntable makes a grinding noise everytime I turn the microwave on. It doesn't seem to turn anymore

We thought the fan motor was going because of the noise--a clattering noise that wasn't there earlier. I came to this website for troubleshooting and there I read the comment about the turntable making noise. I tried my oven and stopped the turntable -I found that there was no noise when I stopped the turntable.

Sounds like the turntable motor is going bad.

Plate does not rotate freely and make noice

There is no belt in your model - the turntable is motor driven. The problem is either the motor itself or the coupling that engages the glass tray.
The motor (GE part # WB26X10038) is a very common failure as the internal gears are plastic and tend to strip.

You can view the motor at this link...

GE Profile over the range microwave

It might be better to post this in the GE section, but I'll be happy to answer it here, too.

I would suspect a bad magnetron or high-voltage transformer, but it may be the turntable motor or an arcing stirrer.

If you can post back with the model number and a bit more detail on when and how it happens, we may be able to help you better.

GE over the range microwave making grinding noise

This sounds like the stirrer. If it sticks or stops, the microwaves can damage or destroy it. You may have a bad stirrer or magnetron. There is an important bulletin that covers these problems. To see if yours is covered, see: http://207.234.249.73/mwd/ge_mw_mag_kit_bulletin.pdf If you need more help, please follow-up.
