It should be a valve plate. You can get them at local air house.

SOURCE: air compressor won't run

Don't run it with the head off! the cylinder will just up and down with the piston and ruin the seals again. I have three Craftsman compressors in my shop and I've torn them all down at least twice. Rather than pay for the kit, I went to NAPA and got a roll of cork gasket material and made my own seals. They don't last as long but they work great.

I'd be willing to bet your seal it just too tight. I made this mistake the first time around too. it's not a very good design as the piston tilts through the stroke. I would try putting a light coat of heavy weight oil on the cylinder wall and move the piston by hand to lube the seal.

SOURCE: coleman compressor no build up of pressure

Parts for coleman are available at www.mastertoolrepair.com your compressor is listed as L0502710. If however you like to tinker, you can make a pretty good reed valve out of aluminum can material or other (any ideas?). It is fairly easy to cut, does not last as long as factory stainless steel, but for short term, why not? Good Luck

SOURCE: install reed valves hitachi air compressor need pics

I believe in your model of air compressor, when you take apart the head portion to your compressor you should have four reed valves. When you have it apart, there should be two "grooves" on the bottom "plate" and two "grooves" on the top plate (where the reed valves go). the bottom part is easy (as you should already know) to set in the reed valves, but as i have also found out, as you probably have, that its a little more difficult to line up the other reed valves to thier "grooves" on the upper "plate". What you do to make sure that they stay in place is dab a little oil or grease on the reeds and place them in the upper "plate grooves" and carefully set the upper plate back in place where it goes on the compressor. It will hold them in place long enough to install it on the compressor and the small amount of grease that was there will quickly be burned up with no effect to the opperation to the machine.
Sorry, long winded explanation. hope this helps and if it didnt get to you soon enough i hope it helps out in the future. :-D

SOURCE: 3gal craftsman horizontal compressor wont build pressure

Without knowing specifics of your unit, If there are three reeds, then two are probably for intake and one for exhaust. Intake reeds should be on the piston side of the valve plate, discharge reed should be on the head side.

There should be a divider in the head side to separate the inlet from the discharge. Make sure the valve plate is turned so that the air from the air filter side goes to the side with the intake valves, and the air from the discharge valve should go to the side with the pipe to the tank.

I have a craftsman air compressor model number 921.153101 that won't pump-up over 40 pounds

Its probably a oil less compressor so it could be the reed valves are bad or the piston rings are bad.

Air compressor model no. 921.153101 blowing air trough air cleaner

If you get air movement out of the air cleaner and it only compresses air to 25psi, you have bent or broken reed valves in the head. Take the head off the cylinder and inspect the valve plates and reed valves. This is a Craftsman compressor so you'll most likely have to get parts through Sears at www.searspartsdirect.com. For best results replace everything between the head and cylinder; gaskets, valve plates and reed valves.

Sounds to me like bad (or dirty) reed valves. Carbon buildup on the reed valves can cause poor seating of the valves. Sears has an Owner's Manual available at http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/15651/CRAFTSMAN-Air-compressor-L0512094?brand_name_search=921.153101 that has a parts listing for the unit.

Compressor will run, but only builds to 20 lb pressure. Line to tank gets hot.

Very hot air is an indication of leaking /broken head gasket or reed valve. Before you remove any parts, with compressor running, check all fittings for leaks with soapy water. If no leaks, remove head and examine parts. If reed valve is broken replace as needed or do creative repair. Some valve plates have multiple reeds and only one reed is broken. Depending on your skill level, you can thread the hole and seal with piece of bolt (finished repair must not be any thicker than the plate). Good luck

I have a Craftsman 919.165610 2 stage oil free air compressor. It will not build pressure? I have replaced the check valve, checked the filter and still no luck? Help

Problem sounds like valve plate /reed valves or worn cylinder /vinyl ring. Easy to check, push piston to top position and examine cylinder neer top looking for scratches. If scratched, most likely vinyl piston ring/s are worn and allowing pressure to leak past. If cylinders look good /shiney all the way up to top, remove head/s and examine reed plate/s for missing/broken reeds and or torn gasket/s. If your reed plate is missing one reed and your are good at being creative, you can seal individual hole by threading and plugging with thin piece of bolt. Good luck and good holidays

I'm reassembling a Craftsman 125psi air compressor (blew a gasket) I dont have something placed right. I think it's the reeds. Can you help? Thanks, VW

just make sure you put the port on the right way around and make sure u have the slop then reed then flat, not flat reed flat, or slop reed slop, thats the basic most people make mistake with, then put it together with the outlet pipe off and fire it up and if its blowing and sucking were it is ment to then all good and just check with your hand on the exit hole that the pressur is ther and not going out the intake, hope this helps
