Time to throw it away. Microwave ovens can be dangerous if not working correctly. Micro-waves, (The actual waves themselves) can be lethal. Unless you really know what you are doing, do not under any circumstances dismantle the machine and switch it on. The cabinet of the machine is designed as a protective box and should stop random waves escaping and cooking anything else including you own insides. Generally Microwave ovens are uneconomical to repair, for the parts and labour you can buy a new one. Buy the most powerful you can. If you buy anything that is below 1000 Watts make sure it has a turn table. Remember that the more you place in a microwave oven, the longer it takes to cook. If you have a big family and you can afford it, you might like to think about a commercial oven 1600 - 1800 watts, that can cope well with large quantities well and will cook a tin of baked beans in less than a minute.

You may have a sticky door switch. Try a simple "slamming" of the door, don't over do it, just a little harder than normal. This may help pop the plunger in the switch back up. The switch could have also become loose and moved out of its adjustment.
If this does not help, a technician should save you time and money with this sometimes perplexing problem.

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose conneciton on the control unit circuit board

With the details you described, the high voltage diode might be shorted( usually HVR 1X). It is connected from the Capacitor and the chassis, or else the capacitor is the one at fault, but not common .

I bought my microwave last year,It had been working but suddenly will not heat, the light comes on table turns and sounds like it is on but will not heat? please help

Repolace the microwave, the heating components like the magnatron would cost almost as much as a new microwave. If money is an issue try Goodwill, they usually sell microwaves for about 5-10$ which is WAY less than cost of parts.

IKEA/Whirlpool IBMS1455WS-0

I have the same microwave and keep having this problem over and over again. If I recall correctly they have had to replace the main control board each time. Luckily the part was not available once and they gave me a new microwave so I got a new five year warranty. This is a horrible flaw in a fairly expensive microwave. Seems like the button only lasts 2 years max. It is really disappointing. Don't think I would get another whirlpool. Had lots of problems with the fridge too.

Microwave doesnot heat anything

6 years is a good run for a microwave to keep working
as it is basically a high frequency radio transmitter, take it in for a proper diagnosis and a quote
mostly after 6 years there may be a shortage of parts available for repair so keep in mind that it may be cheaper to junk it and get a later model

Same Problem - Suddenly Died ~2yrs old, very light use.

Probably a fuse inside the unit. Can be caused by overheating or by door switches not working properly.

Was using it last night to heat something up. When almost done, microwave made a zizt type of sound and went off. I turned it back on and it continued cooking, but I started smelling burned plastic or

More common then you think, i have gone through a couple microwaves in the last ten years, they both failed very similar to what you describe. One popped the breaker one day, reset the breaker and it worked again but had an odd smell to it. I took it apart and couldn't find anything burnt or melted so i tossed it and got a new one, i didn't want a microwave burning the house down! I would suggest unless your really tied to that microwave that you just replace it for safety sake. Four years or forty years old don't matter anymore, i had one microwave, LG brand, that died two months after the warranty expired and it would cost more to repair it then replace the thing!

My microwave has stopped working and switched on suddenly!!

Sounds just like a bad door switch or door switch mount. Probably the upper one. Safety info, disassembly tips, and door switch test and replacement info are all available at our Web site. See http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
