It should not fog up. Has something been spilled on it? I would first try a hair dryer on it. But don't over hear anything

Need to remove top of scanner microtek scan wizard 5 to clean underside of glass

Follow these steps to clean the scanner :
1

Open up your scanner's lid. It does not matter if the scanner is on or off for this basic, regular cleaning.

2

Wipe down the glass surface with a dry, lint-free microfiber cloth. This will remove any dust or other fine particles that have accumulated on the scanner. You should remove excess dust every day or two.

3

Scan a blank sheet of white paper into your computer and look for visible discoloration. A white sheet will provide a clean, blank slate to view the scanner's overall quality. If you notice any irregularities on the white sheet, you need to do more thorough, semi-regular cleaning.

Semi-Regular Cleaning

1

Turn off the scanner and open up the lid.

2

Spray a small amount of "mild glass cleaner" on a soft, clean cloth as recommended by Scanner-Magic.com.

3

Wipe the scanner's glass to thoroughly clean the area. You should perform this semi-regular cleaning at least every two weeks or sooner if a white sheet of paper indicates discoloration.

4

Keep the scanner's lid open for a few minutes until all excess glass cleaner has dried.

How to clean the underside of the scanner glass on an HP4400C flatbed scanner.

This is acutally easier than it looks. I just had the same problem with a cloudy film starting to form underneath the glass on my older HP 4400C scanner.

First completely remove the hinged top lid by lifting straight up on both long ends of the lid - notice the 2 hinges on the back end of the lid will come straight up and out of the body of the scanner, still attached to the lid.

Next look down inside the 2 hinge holes (on the main body of the scanner where the lid hinges just came out of) and you will see a screw in each hole. Remove both screws using a phillips screwdriver. This will allow the rear end of the scanner to come apart enough so you can now lift it up a few inches to separate it and get your hand inside there to clean the underside of the glass with a soft cloth - BUT JUST REMEMBER THE FRONT END OF THE SCANNER WILL STILL BE CONNECTED, so don't pull it too far apart because it could snap and break something that is still holding the front end together. (I could not figure out how to separate the front end piece, and then I realized I didn't have to).

So on the rear end of the scanner, now carefully pull the light upper colored plastic apart from the lower dark plastic just enough so you can get your hand inside the compartment and use a soft cloth to clean the underside of the glass. I just used a small piece of an old cotton t-shirt with a couple little dabs of water on it and then just kept rubbing the dirty areas on the underside of the glass over and over until all the dust film/streaks disappeared and the glass was once again clean and all clear.

Then gently lower the glass back down and line up the plastic pieces together on the rear end and put the 2 screws back in the hinge holes, and then reinsert the hinges in their slots and lower the lid back on top of the scanner glass and it is ready to go again !!

Hope this works for you like it did for me.

Cleaning underside of glass on 610 scanner glass has mildew on underside

Ok. Found this question on-line as I also wanted to know the answer. Couldnt find an answer so I just decided to have a go myself. It was quite easy really. Lift the lid upwards and gently push it backwards from the hinged end and it will unclip. With the scanner facing away from you, undo the only 2 screws visible at the back. Then gently lift up and push forward towards the front. You can see thru the glass 3 plasic lugs holding the front down. With a little wiggle the cover with the glass attached will come away from the slotted holes where the plastic lugs go. Clean glass an carefully replace lid in the reverse order. Pete

Fog build up on underside of glass plate.

I made contact with cannon and received this reply. I was satisfied with the answer but the question still remained on how to remove the glass should i wish to do so. Also after there answer... would there then be a problem if i did clean the reverse side. Their answer was initialy this...
The foggy haze on the glass is actually an anti-glare treatment that has
been intentionally applied to the underside of the scanner glass.  This
treatment lessens the glare from the lamp under the glass and provides
better image quality.  This haze may not appear uniform because of the
shape of the scanner base and the components under the glass. However,
the anti-glare treatment has been uniformly applied and the haze is as
expected.  The treatment should not affect the scan quality or output of
the 8600F.

Canon 9900f scanner glass removal

I would not worry about the underside of the glass unless you are having problems. The focal length of the ccd that captures the image is very specific and probably will not pick up anything under the glass. It is normal for the underside to look foggy but it will not hurt anything.

Underside of scanner bed needs cleaned

Start by taking the back cover off. Then the 2 side covers, being careful not to break the speaker wires.
There will be 2 screws holding the sanner into the machine, you need to remove them. Carefully disconnect the ribbon cable, remove the ground screw, and all the connectors to the scanner and document feeder. It will have to be popped backward to unlatch it from the frame.
Remove the document feeder, take notice how you remove the wires so you can route them properly when reassemling.
Remove the screws holding the control consol and the scanner together.
There also will be some plastic tabs holding it snapped together. Seperate the glass frame from the remainder of the scanner.
disasseble the scanner head carefully being cautious not to break the lamps so you can clean the mirrors. Then clean the underside of the glass.
Then in reerse order, taking your time, reasseble the machine. Make sure to route the wires properly and carefully.
A bit time consuming, but the scanner must be removed and disassembled to clean it.

This solution is for the HP 3310 all-in-one.
How to clean under the glass.

2. Lift the lid and pull it straight up about 3/4 of an inch, you will see two indents in the hinge, push these one at a time to release the lid. Remove it completely.
3. 3 screws are located under the hinge, remove them as well as the two in the front.
4. In the back, gently pull on the silver end pieces to release the top from the unit.
