I have a Frigidaire PLGS389ECG slide-in range, and the electronic ignition just quit working. I would like to open it up to take a look, but can't figure out how to get the cook top off. Do I need to cut the bead of caulk around the edge of the cook top and slide the unit out to start working on it, or is there some way to open it up in place?

Each burner is secured with 2 to 3 screws. It will be necessary to remove all screws on each burner in order to remove the top. USE CAUTION. Do not force the screws it they seem tight. These screws will often corrode, forcing them out could break them. The best method if tight is to move them back and forth (tighten, loosen, tighten, loosen etc. until the corrosion breaks free.

there are two tests to chk which is bad, wether it is the control switch or the elemnt.disconnect the power to stove and open the top and disonnect the wires from elemnt and chks the continuity of the elemnt coil with a multimeter.if the meter does not read continuity then elemnt is bad.to confirm this connect the wires back to the elemnt and plug the unit to power, turn on the switch to high position and read the voltage coming to elemnt.it should be 240 volts.if u read that voltage, then for sure element is bad.if every thing is opposite to this then it is the control switch which is bad.

Well not sure how long it has been in use,but igniters will go bad anywhere from 5-15 years depending on use and if the stove has been moved or dropped. The igniter is very fragile and when you look at it the crack that stops it from working is very small and many times is hard to find.Well hope this helps.
Good Morning M Kinsella, thank you for your inquiry!
Based off the information you have provided your Frigidaire dual fuel range is not igniting on either broil or bake. There is not a pilot light on your range. It typically is an electronic igniter and if it fails that electrical piece would need to be replaced. In order to have that component tested and repaired I would advise seeking assistance from a professional technician. If you do not have a professional contact I would review your manufacturer's website for additional assistance. I hope this is helpful. -Matt
