DLINK DP-300U. Desktop shows printer offline, Laptop prints OK.

I have a DLINK DP-300U. My Desktop has XP home, and has been printing to this for years.
Today the printer was showing offline, I was able to get into the print server a test the USb port, test is ok from print server.

Went to my laptop and the same printer shows ready, test print and checks ok.

Decided to remove port and printer from my desktop. Reinstall and the printer shows ready, but try to test print and document fails.

I recently changed/ installed AV protection about 3 weeks ago, but can't recall if I was able to print or checked printing.

Problem appears to be in the PC.

Any ideas what to try next?

First thing.. plug printer directly into PC.. does it work? .. if so its is a port setting. If now it is the device config on PC

If Port Setting Issues.. are you going through any other devices on the network or is you firewall blocking the IP.

If device Config issue check to see it is setup up as an IP Port not a normal local port

Hp 1020 dp-300u

dont' worry about what the d-link site says. its because they haven't tested it. i got my dp-301u to work fine with my hp1020 on 2 different workstations with the following steps.

1. install printer locally via usb and test.
2. create a second printer as per the dlink manual creating a port. don't worry about the name as we will delete it.
3. once created go into the properties of the 2nd printer and change the port to something local - anything will do to free up the port.
4. go into the properties of the printer that was created in step 1. and change the port to that of the print server.
5. test print. should work fine.

cheers!!

Configuring a Mac Book Pro laptop with a DP 300U Print Server

I connected my HP5MP to the DP-300U LPT1 port.
I configured my port on the DLink Configuration tab, giving it a name "hp5"
...The default login is at http://192.168.0.10/ user:admin pass:(there is no pass by default)

On my Mac, I go to System Preferences > Print & Fax
Click the + to add a new printer
Select the IP option
Choose the Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
Type in the Address: 192.168.0.10
Type in the Queue: hp5
Print Using: Generic PostScript Printer or better yet, 'Select a driver to use...'
and find the driver for your HP LaserJet 5MP.
Save it. Works like magic. ;-)

If you change the IP address or password on the DLink, just CYA and write it all down on a sticky note then tape the note under the DLink chassis. There's no reset button on the thing, and if you're o a Mac, you won't necessarily have access to the Windows utility to jack with the DP-300U. So, write it down, kidd-o!

DLink DP-300U Print Server

What is the IP of the Print Server and the Printer itself? They have to be on a 'flat network' or the gateways of the the 'adjacent' networks have to be defined as a neighborhood.
