The glass cover does come off. Use some latex gloves or non skid material and grasp the lens firmly and turn counter clockwise.

As protek480 (thanks) I had to use a pair of gas pliers and some ott grip and turning force to get glass cover off. Takes a 15watt, screw in lamp which came out ok. Good luck

Just be careful with the pliers but it does work

It is possible that the glass cover holds in its socket more than the socket in the oven. In my oven I had first to fixate the socket -- by orienting it and pushing in the right direction -- and only then I could unscrew the cover by applying force.

If I tried to unscrew it directly, I would probably just break the socket. My oven is FPP502/1X, though.

I have an Indesit oven model FIE 36 K.B GB, I need to replace the bulb but I'm struggling to get the glass lamp protector off. I've looked in the manual and it says it should just twist off but all...

A common problem with some oven manufacturers I'm afraid. The screw thread of the glass almost welds itself to the metal casing it screws into.

It will turn and you can remove it. However, the easiest way is to get leverage on the glass. This is best done by using a Baby Boa Strap Wrench, which you can pick up for a few pounds in a DIY store. I have removed many apparantly stuck round glass oven lamp covers in this way.

I have recently moved into a Park Home that has a 4/5 year old Candy cooker - the light bulb in the oven has failed and needs changing, but I cannot mov e the glass cover at all, it will not lever/unscrew...

If it has not been removed for a long time, then it could be stuck with bunt on grease and fat.If it is a round glass, then it should unscrew anti-clockwise.
Try wrapping a cloth round a pair of grips, and try to unscrew it that way.
Do not put too much pressure on, as you may break the glass.
