When dryer running there is a burning smell - Whirlpool GEW9250 Electric Dryer

If you have an older Kenmore dryer, the drum bearing and/or rollers may be failing. This would cause the drum to rotate unevenly (wobble) and possibly contact the heating elements on the rear panel. This would account for the banging noise and burning smell. Your dryer has to be serviced.

if you can hear the motor running then probably the belt is either too loose and/or broken (you may hear a rubbing or squeeling sound).....if you cant hear the motor running then it may be burned out....a very acidy smell.

Either problem requires taking the dryer apart to fix (new belt or new motor)

the burning smell is from the belt tensioner roller bearing. It is locked up making the belt to burn

needs new thermostat DO NOT USE IT IS A FIRE WAITING TO HAPPEN

It sounds like your belt needs to be replaced. You're smelling the melting (burning) rubber.

If you distinquished the smell was burning electronics and not lint, then it's likely control board components shorted/burned out.

Your drive belt may have broken if it smelled like rubber burning. If that is the case then your motor bearing are worn out or something has been lodged between your dryer drum and the dryer housing. If the smell was the odor of burning plastic, then your motor is probably burned up.

first check your dryer vent hole and dryer wall vent to make sure there not clogged with lent,most of the time that's what it is,let me know and we can go on from there-mike

Have you painted or stained in your house or apartment recently? The smell gets everywhere, dryer, stove, heating unit. I recently primed with Kilz and the clothes from my dryer smelled burned. When I called for service, it was the first question the service person asked and said they made a lot of useless trips only to find nothing wrong with the appliance. That was my case. I had to rewash clothes and let the dryer run with towels for a while
