Take a socket and ratchet or breaker bar and put it on the head of the bolt on the dampner (harmonic balancer) and see if it will turn. If it is extremely difficult to turn then it is most likely seized, if it turns then it isn't

2001 ford windstar engine may have locked up what do i do with out junking the vehicle

If you want to keep it, best bet is to find another engine, exact same engine, and same year preferable, and put that in your windstar.
But you said "may have locked.." Anybody handy with wrenches could tell you if the engine is seized up or not. Once seized, they don't come unseized, so just a matter of seeing if the crankshaft still turns inside the engine. If not seized, it may be worth seeing if engine is still useful. But if it locked up, the rebuild cost is too great to make it worthwhile. Just find another engine.

Why won't it crank?

Not being able to turn the engine by hand is not a good sign. It would be odd for the engine to seize out of the blue without prior noises indicating a problem. Possible seized drive pulley ( alternator/AC compressor etc ). Try removing the serpentine belt to rule out a seized pulley. If the engine cranks/starts with the belt removed, suspect a seized accessory pulley

Why wont my vehicle start?

I don't think so. All a remote start does is activate the system like turning your key. Only does it automatically. If your engine is seized there has to be other problems. Like did it over heat. Was it run with low oil.. Did the rad go dry?

2001 Saab 9-3 seized engine

Only if overheated bad enough, it could seize up the engine. But if it was seized, there is no way to do a compression test. ?? Take the bas***** to court. If truly no compression, the engine is shot, they didn't overlook anything, but they should be liable for a new engine- a warranty is a warranty or it is worthless. Sue them!

My VW Golf over heated, the engine cutoff in the middle of the road and now won't start. what could be wrong?

If you over heated significantly the cylinders will expand and the engine will seize.

If seized it is dead.

It can get to a point where one cylinder seized and it will cause major problems with the crank and cams. Both of which are not something you can fix at home or have a quick fix solution.

There is a way to check if you are seized. Try turning the engine over using a wrench of ratchet on the crank bolt. The crank bolt will be on the lowest pulley on the back of the engine where the belts run. It is usually about a 19mm bolt.

Warning: turn only clockwise and never counterclockwise.

If you can turn the engine over it is not seized. If not you have a seized engine (sorry about that).

Start there.

Hope this helps.

Engine Seized up on a 2006 Pontiac G6

check the oil and coolant levels. if coolant is low pull the sparkplugs and try to turn the engine over if still not turning free remove the serpentine belt and try again, if it turns over ok check the pullyes on the front of the motor to see if they all turn free by hand. a serpentine belt can prevent an engine from turning over if a tensioner, idler, water pump, alternator, or power steering pump is siezed up or starting to seize. being your battery is bad I'm thinking probably the alternator is seized. hope this helps mike.

Seized engine???

first thing i would make sure is to remove the belt from the engine and see if it turns then. possible siezed accessory pulley could stop engine. if still doesnt turn over with belt off, maybe remove spark plugs to see if will turn over then
