Hi, if when the camera is making a whirring noise when switched on the gears are either misaligned or damaged , with camera on slap the base of the camera using your palm, a couple of times should be enough, if this does not help , look closely at the lens if the lens is not straight , gently try a straighten the lens using your thumb and fore finger very gently , you will hear a light click , if this does not work , then the service center ,

Lens cover sticking

Stuck automatic lens cover is usually a very easy fix. A lot of times it's just a bit of gunk or dirt jamming it. Pay attention to the paper or vacuum fix. Do not recommend opening it as it is somewhat complex (tiny springs and shutters).

The screen keeps showing lens error. The lens isn't stuck though...

The lens doesn't have to be stuck to have a lens error. The auto-focusing ring could be sticking, or the gears could be jamming a bit because of dust, lint, dirt, or sand. Here is a good web blog that explains things you can try to free it up, and they say about 50% of the cameras can be fixed trying their suggestions:

The first thing to try is to spray the lens assembly with some compressed air. Hopefully, this will fix it.
If all fails and you elect to have it fixed, get an estimate first, since repair costs can be high.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

The lens/zoom has tendency to stick. Try newest batteries and try several times to turn on and off. If all else fails, Kodak will fix it for $50

Lens error

It happened to me as well. If you can see the lens is not retracting when you shut it off, just force it to go straight in by pulling it our or just pushing it up so it straightens out.
