Sounds like you have a cracked LCD screen. Cracked lcds can result in white/black/lines, etc. To be sure, hook up an external monitor and see if that shows a proper image.

White screen

I get the white screen of death as well from time to time and I found this video and it actually worked for me.
Hope you have the same problem as me and this should help out just do what he does:
When the screen goes white, let the music play, put it on hold, wait until the screen turns black then take it off hold and the screen should be back on hope this helps.

Blank White Screen - No Menu Showing

My Sansa has a similar problem. Sometimes when the Sansa turns on (after the Sandisk logo) the screen will either turn black, blue, or black and white stripes. The player still works, but it is hard to navigate without the screen, obviously. What I end up doing is letting the backlight turn off and then pressing any button. Sometimes when the screen comes back, the display is allright again. But sometimes it takes more than a few tries. Turning it off and on again seems to work a little better, but it is more time consuming.
