SOURCE: outer glass is loose

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo).

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

Then you can see the screws you need to check and tighten, etc.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

Hi,

To clean between you need to remove one of the pieces of glass...usually the inside is the best....

There are a few screws on the inside of the door theat hold the frame, which holds the inside glass...

remove the frame and carefully remove the inside glass... clean the inside of the outside glass, then clean the inside of the inside glass and then reinstall the froame over the inside glass...

Now you have a clean ove glass again...

Own Whirlpool Microwave oven Model MH6141XKQ. How does one clean the "inside" glass of the door. By inside, I mean between the two glasses on the door.

You will need to remove the door and take the door apart to clean between the glass. This process is not that difficult. Just follow these steps:

1. Open the door all the way and lift straight up at the hinges to remove from oven.

2. Place the door, face down on a soft surface to protect the door and glass. A layer of towels on a countertop or table is recommended.

3. Remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The panel is pressed in place and can be removed by using a small screwdriver or putty knife and carefully insert along the seam of the inner panel. Work your way slowly around the perimeter of the glass to release the clips that hold it in place so you can pry the plastic up and pop the panel loose. Use care not to pry against the glass.

4. With the inner panel removed, the glass should be easily accessible and can be carefully lifted out and cleaned. Clean with a good non-streaking glass cleaner.

Make sure you remember how the door is assembled as you take it apart. If you forget, the following webistes have illustrated parts listings to show how your door is assembled:

Door handle is loose

To access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door. You will find the screws behind the panel.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Rust forming between the glass panels in the door

Actually if you can use a screwdriver you can fix this problem yourself. The glass can be accessed by taking off the screws holding the inside panel to the door on. The screws are visible. Once this panel is off you will see the screws that hold the plate glass in. Keep in mind that the gasket that goes around the glass and inside the door panel are there to keep microwaves from escaping. So in all this be sure to put it back in place right. I have fixed many doors and there really is nothing to mess up. Just put it back together the same way you took it off but in reverse of course. As far as cleaning the glass there is a product call Goof Off that comes in a spray. They sell it at Lowes or Home Depot either one. Use steel wool that you can get there as well and spray a generous amount on the steel wool until it drips slightly and not on the glass directly. Clean all the areas and kinda of use a dry rag to wipe off any excess. After you've taken care of the rust stains and are satisfied take a good glass cleaner like Windex and clean it like regular glass. Keep in mind that the whole door will come off and completely apart to get to both glasses and in between. I would comment additionally that what is in between the glass may be that way due to a leak through the gasket around between the inside and outside glass. However, inspect the gasket well and if you need to you can find a replacement through the dealer or manufacturer of that brand. Keep in mind also that leakage from the microwave door in any way could hurt someone with a heart pacemaker if they get close or someone else that has a battery in it such as people with embedded health units for muscles spasms after back surgeries and the like. Those are the most critical health issues to consider and to be sure that your gaskets are good.
