The variables available to you are A,B,C,D,E,X,Y. To type them in you press the ALPHA key, followed by the key near which a letter (A,B,C,D,...) is marked. If a variable, say X, is to be entered in the numerator of a fraction, press the stacked fraction key. In the upper square type the expression with X. When finished, use the Down key to move entry level in the lower square. After you finish the denominator, use the right arrow key to move the entry line to the main level.
If you enter the ratios using the fraction entry key ( [a b/c] the
results will be displayed as fractions. And when the calculator
displays fractions they are always in their reduced form. In general,
when you are manipulating fractions ( Pi/2 is no a fraction even if you
write it as one) you can try to simplify them by looking for the
greatest common factor (GCF) of the numerator and denominator. When you
simplify by the GCF the fraction that is left is in its reduced form.
Look for a key marked as [a b/c] To use it to enter an (improper) fraction type in the numerator , press the [a b/c] key the type in the denominator thaen press [=]. To enter a mixed number type in the integer press [a b/c] thype in the numerator, press [a b/c] then type in the denominator followed by the =/EXE key. the result will be displayed as [integer number] [r] [numerator] [r] [denominator]. The separator [r] may look that the letter r or the letter u.
To configure the calculator to do fractions, set the Input/Output mode to MathIO. Press [SHIFT][MODE] to open (SetUp) then select [1:MathIO]. After you set it to MathIO, pressing the fraction key will display a fraction template where you can enter numerator and denominator as you would by hand (horizontal fraction bar). Also, the calculator will display results as fractions and radicals whenever possible. To perform arithmetic operations on fractions use the regular operation keys (x, +, -, /). The calculator will perform the operations and display the results as fractions (whenever possible).
To enter the fraction two-thirds (2/3), first enter the number two. Then press the key that is the letter n with a bar underneath it. This will designate the 2 as the numerator of the fraction. Then, enter the number 3 followed by the key that is the letter d with a bar over it. That designates the 3 as the denominator of the fraction.
Any fraction can be inputted in the same manner. First the numerator followed by the n with a bar under it, then the denominator followed by the d with the bar over it. Once your fraction is inputted, continue with your computations as normal.
This calculator is incapable of displaying simplified fractions (i.e. 1 ½), you will have to use the decimal value or contain your complex fraction in parenthesis. (i.e. (5/2).)
Hi, You are not specifying the brand and model number of your calculator and that makes things more difficult for me. On the Casio calculators (FX-300ES, FX-115ES, FX-991ES) there is key labeled [S to D] which toggles between Fractions/Radicals To Decimals. On other calculators (Sharp), the key may be labeled F To E. You should look for a key that has two letters with a two-sided arrow linking the letters.
Why I even try to answer a question that lacks basic information and give the opportunity to the asker to shoot me dead is beyond me.
