I have a 6kw generator that was running last night when suddenly the the inverter/charger quit charging. AC still coming in but it is nor charging or inverting while generator is running. Inverter does work with 12 volt and engine will charge batteries.
The charge fuse may have broken or the charger is bad
Although Xantrex says there are no user serviceable parts inside, there is a slow blow 1/4 amp fuse in the AC sensing circuitry which, if it blows, will cause the charger function to be inoperative. The fuse can be replaced, but you still have to find out what caused it to blow, i.e. another component failure. The most likely culprit is the small 2"x2" transformer on the AC circuit card, which should read ~ 130 ohms across its windings. If it reads significantly less and/or there is evidence of burning or charring on the transformer itself, that is likely your problem. However, even if you can use a soldering iron, since Xantrex only provides parts to their service network, you may be hard pressed to find a replacement, and would need to take the unit to a servicer anyway. Not cheap, but probably less expensive than a new unit.
