This is driving me crazy on this machine. Just starting to quilt and the left position renders the quarter-inch foot useless. If you jiggle the big wheel with the stitch choices, I can get it to move to the center although it does not stay there.
Some sewing machines have the "Home" needle position at the left. Usually those machines also have the flat side of the needle installed facing to the side instead of toward the back of the machine.
It takes some getting used to a left needle position, but with practice, it's not so bad.

Don't know about your particular model, but maybe left is the normal "resting" position. When on zigzag it will move to the right then back to the left. As long as all of your different stitch patterns keep the needle between the limits of the hole above the shuttle and does not hit the machine bed then I would best guess everything is fine.
