Change the filter it might be growing mold.
or wash it under hot water and let dry before putting it back on.

i often use vinegar and water to clean my steam cleaners. I use a 3:1 ratio of 3parts water to 1part vinegar. using 8oz's as a part. hope this helps good luck. whoops btw use mixture to run through machine and soak dirty water tank in.

mix some lemon juice in the water that will make it smell lovely

usually this is as simple as overloading the washer,, Its not able to drain out all of the dirty water so it smells foul,, try a smaller load,

stainless steel will not smell or rust that why its used,the cause of the smell is twofold 1 dirty dishes should not be left unwashed in the machine to long a bectearia starts to grow within a couple of hours and starts the smell process,2the filter system at the bottom of the machine should be checked everyday [heavy user]light use every [2/3 days],the screen at the bottom of the machine is the filters,some models do leave some water in the bottom.adrian,,,,,

Sounds like an inlet valve. If there is no water in the pump when it runs you can burn up the rubber seals. After fixing the fill problem you should check underneath for any leaks.

change your water filter and clean all the lines for water,you must have an algae,mold buildup in there somewhere,and possibly water got into insulation and has startes to mold

My suggestion is to contact Maytag. I have the same problem. Maytag can tell you what you can do to reduce the odor. I think the problem originates from the fact that the drum always has water in it and the rubber seal has a bad smell.
