Spinning cycle makes a lot of noise

See if the tub will spin freely by hand. Spin it both ways. It should coast silently to a stop. If you hear a dragging sound or it doesn't spin smoothly look for a sock between the inner and outer tubs. Start looking in the upper left side at about the 10:00 and 11:00 positions. That's where i usually find them.
If it seems to spin ok then see if the inner tub wobbles separately from the outer drum. Push up on inner basket from inside. The outer drum and inner tub should rise and fall as a solid piece. If you feel a separation the bearings need replaced or the spider assembly has broken. Only a complete teardown can tell which. Hope this helps.

When it goes into the spin cycle it makes a loud knocking noise like a gear or belt is bad. what can i do, it is only 1 1/2 years old.

The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. If the bearing is getting out of its way then its faulty weak motor causing this.Check out both the bearing and the motor. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com

Admiral Washer makes loud steady noise during spin cycle but washes clothes & completes cycle. Possible bearing problem?

If a front loader type, try lifting up on the drum. If it clunks and seems to move somewhat easily, it is probably the front bearing on drum rear support shaft--a major tear-down to replace. If a top loader, try tipping the basket (that spins) in several directions--if it makes clunking sounds, try removing the agitator and check the tub mounting bolts at the bottom center for tightness. If ok, tip the tub again and watch for movement. It may have a bad bearing below the tub at the center area. Remove the tub bolts and pull the tub out revealing the drive hub underneath. Don't know if you would have to drop the transmission to repair what you find. Good luck!

Knocking Whrilpool Duet

The "cleats" inside the wash tub are actually called "fins". If they are loose try tightening them to see if the sound goes away. You should be able to tighten them from inside the wash tub. Some models have mounting screws that are accessible from inside the wash tub. However, if your machine is knocking like you say it is, it could be sign that one or more of the mounting shocks under the wash tub could be bad, the rear tub bearing could be going bad, or the drive pulley could be cracked or warped. Remove the lower kick plate and watch the shocks during the spin cycle. The shocks should vibrate some, but should not be excessive to the point that it causes an unbalanced spin. To check the drive pulley, remove the 3 screws from the washer top in the rear of the machine. The top should slide back some and then lift off. Watch the drive pulley behind the wash tub during the spin to make sure the rotation is smooth and even. Sometimes one of the arms on the pulley can crack or become bent and cause the pulley to wobble. More than likely, though, the drive belt would slip off. I have also seen where the hole in the center of the drive pulley starts to "round out". The hole is not perfectly round and has to flat sides. Sometimes over time the drive shaft will start to slip around the flat sides, causing the pulley to rattle during the spin cycle. If the rear tub bearing is starting to go, the washer will be very noisy during the spin cycle, and you may start to notice some stains on your clothes if the bearing seal has been breached. You can reach inside the wash tub with the unit turned off. With one hand, push up on the wash tub and release. If you can feel the tub moving up and down (even the slightest) this could be a sign that the bearing is worn out. Now this should be a noticeable metal on metal type feel. Not the normal motion of the wash tub moving up and down from the motion of the shocks. The tub bearing is not a cheap (or easy) fix. The entire back section of the rear outer tub shell has to be replaced, because the bearing is molded into the plastic. Check all the easy things first. Let me know if this helps.

"howling" noise during spin cycle (still there after changing burned off belt)

Travioso, there was two service flashes out on this model concerning the seal and bearing which means they had an issue with this washer. The howling noise you are hearing is the bearing and will need the new designed triple seal and bearing kit. This should be covered under your warranty, I believe it is 5 years. The numbers for the service flashes are TDL-0048A-B. Call Maytag and inquire about these service flashes, these should be covered. Catriver.
