GE JCP 930 Cooktop Wiring

My GE cooktop consistently blows a fuse when all four burners are on. The fuses are under the counter and there are two at 20 watts each. Can I run the wiring direct and use the circuit breaker for protection?

There are fuses under the counter AND it is wired to a breaker box. I have removed the fuses and connected direct to the breaker box. Is this safe?

Bought a second hand Kenmore cooktop, newer than my own. The old one has fuses under the control box but this one just has 5 wires coming out the side. do I need a fuse box or can this be wired directly? It seems as though the wires have been paired (taped together) in two sets of two plus ground. The model number is C970-46049-1 but I can't seem to find any info. Tks.

I reckon you meant 20 amps. Most stoves have a double 30 amp panel
breaker. What if your panel had 40 -50 amp breaker to that stove?

The fuses are a safety feature. If I had that stove I would change the fuses to 25 amp each and see what happens.

These fuses are under counter? It should be wired to breaker box. Check specs in manual but i suspect a 30 or 40 amp breaker.

If these fuses are not part of cooktop, and I'm sure their not, it SHOULD be connected to breaker box directly. Again, check for proper breaker requirements.

My Kitchen Aid Model KECC507 electric cooktop blows a fuse when I use all four burners. I am using 4x20amp fuses.

The fuses should be at least 35 amps the ones you are using are rated to low for the range.

How do I open the unit?

Disconnect power before dissassembly. I believe on your model you will have to remove the burner caps and burner heads, then the screws you find under them. (either small phillips, or more likely small torx) You can disconnect spark ignitors then if you like. You may then just have to dry things out, most likely at the burner ignition switches on the burner valve stems.

Burner cap

The cook top should be bolted to the counter. Look under and look for brackets that attach the bottom of the cooktop to the sides of the counter. and also the model number should be somewere underneath. If you can get me the Model number I can get you the maintenance manual in PDF format.

GE Cooktop JP930 surface element not working

It sounds like the burner needs to be replaced. When they burn out sometimes they short out to ground. The cooktop will have to be removed from the counter and the glass top opened. You will probably be able to see where the element is burned out. Replace it and you should be fine. If it is too expensive to fix just disconnect the wires to the burner where they attach to the control . Then you can use the remaining burners. I really don't know what a replacement burner costs. An open coil is around $30.
